Where Willy Went...: The Big Story of a Little Sperm!

Why all the bad reviews????!!
The book is a helpful little tool for parents teaching a younger child about the "act" without being vulgar. I don't know why other reviews were ugly and saying the book is terrible and not a book for a child. I wonder what they expected? There are some somewhat-anatomy-correct cartoon drawings of a man's body and a woman's body. Yes, you can see he has a PENIS! lol... and it points to the lower area of a woman.- (again, a cartoon) There are no overly-detailed drawings here, and after the book, I would hope your child has questions because nothing is explained in detail, and kids are not going to walk away in a dazed, comatose state. Just a story about this man, this woman, these little cartoon sports, and an egg. Really, the people criticizing this book so much surely have children that grew up to be 40 year old virgins. This is nothing compared to a real sex talk that an informative parent might give their child. It is a TOOL for younger children.

Great launching point book on sex topics for younger kids
I got this book to start introducing the idea of sex to my six- and seven-year-old children. They love this book. They've both re-read it several times and talk about the concepts within. Some of the diagrams are simplified for the intended audience (not expecting Gray's Anatomy), but it was adequate enough to satisfy my daughter's piquing curiosity about how bodies are different and my son's curiosity about exactly how a man's penis contributes to making a baby. But this book isn't the first and last conversation you should have with your kids about the topic, either. We're using it as a launching point, to put the seed into their minds (bad pun) that this happens and this is where they came from. And they love discussing whether they were Willy, if they are better at swimming or at sums, etc. They'll ask more detailed questions as time passes (and they already have). But I can't stress enough how enjoyable this book was for both my kids and me and I can't imagine a better or easier way to start this conversation.

Handy little helping tool.
I work as a counselor, and often times meet with young teens/tweens and/or cognitively impaired young folks. This book is very colorful, not raunchy at all, and still puts a smile on your face, all while educating the reader about the basic functions of reproduction. Helping a young person understand why they get physically aroused can sometimes be awkward, but having this book around as a tool sure helps in those difficult cases. The story line itself is actually rather funny as well, so everyone can laugh, and not feel tense when reading the book. My 9 year old daughter found the book on the table when I got it home and went through it. She gave me a funny look, and asked me what it was, after she had read it. I snickered, but explained it to her, and now she is much more comfortable with the entire topic. I didn't intent for my 9 year old to see it, but I believe she handled it rather well. Maybe that can help you decide wether or not your child is at the appropriate age for sexual education. If nothing else, it's a fun story!

Somewhere between adult humor and sex ed for kids.
Enjoyable story. Not quite hilarious adult only material, not quite something all parents would read to their kids. Kind of a middle ground. Entertaining, but does semi-teach kids about how babies are made in a "light-chuckle" sort of fashion.

Baby shower hit!
Best baby shower gift ever!! You should have seen people go crazy over this! And it was a group of nurses, so that's saying something. Love the illustrations and story!

Great great buy!
Great book for children. I didn’t know how to have the talk and then this book comes right out of nowhere for me. Love this book, very kid friendly.

Because parents cringe
I loved this book. I let my kids read it considering they're teenagers and it also made them laugh. It made sense to them. It wasn't uncomfortable to talk about how we all have the "winners of the race" in common.

Scientifically innacurate and patronising.
I bought this for my 7 year old Autistic son (a cis boy as far as we know).. As he's been getting really interested in human reproduction lately. I've answered all of his questions pretty scientifically and thought that this book would help illustrate some of it for him. For starters, neither 'mr. Browne' or 'mrs. Browne' have any body hair, my son has never been shielded from naked adults, he knows adults have body hair, and what is this teaching the children who don't? That they won't develop body hair? I forgave the book for that and then I discovered 'mr. Browne' has nipples and 'Mrs. Browne' does not, why?? Are women's nipples offensive to children? Even illustrated ones? Then there was a crude 'map' of where the sperm had to go on their 'big race', 'mr. Browne' s one was not very detailed, but not in accurate, 'Mrs. Brownes' one was entirely innacurate, it didn't show the vagina or uterus or fallopian tubes or ovaries, just some sort of weird hole in her belly that led upwards and then down into a little sack with one egg sat at the bottom of it, what even?? This will be confusing to my son, as I have already shown him what a uterus looks like. Why shield children like this? Even if they are young children, knowing basic human anatomy isn't going to do them any harm. Plus, my son already has a thing for bellies, I don't want him trying to put his penis into them.

I dont feel a 6 year old is old enough for this.
This book was suggested as my 6 year old daughter had asked how babies got in your tummy. However when it came, I decided it was too soon to read it to my daughter, despite several reviews saying they had read to similar age or even younger. It just didnt sit right with me. The book points to mr browns on show private parts on the second page and says thats where the sperm live. I guess everyone is different but for me it felt too soon. I think Ill wait a bit longer.

A great introduction to the facts of life
Perfect for younger children - my six year old has just been introduced to this story (though would say it's suitable for ages 3+) as he was asking questions about where babies come from. This book answered all his questions and more besides without giving too much information or being too graphic etc. Love it, and aside from being so very informative it is also a lovely little story that children will want to come back to again and again.

Excellent book.
Well done author! Friend was worried it would show where willy went...it is great and explaining everything properly without detail they at the age this book is for don’t necessarily need to know. They might however ask questions and plenty of them are possible form each page of this book!!! If questions are asked they need to be answered and properly...willie definitely goes where he is designed for and yet without actually saying how or where exactly that is ! Very well worth having this book with others and being an adult and explaining everything openly honestly and properly without embarrassing yourself or them about what Mummy and Daddy do together and where etc !

Brilliant book!
I was looking for a simple book explaining the sbuject, suitable for a 3 year old boy and for a 8 year old girl. This was the best choice. The story is clear and true without too much detail. Pictures are lovely and the book itself is very interesting. We have been reading it few times as a family, too. Highly recommend!
