Cute little book
I bought this mostly for fun to give to a lady with the same name as the book for Christmas in a few months. The book is small but still easily readable and maneuverable with simple graphics.

Beautiful illustrations and great moral lesson
This is an absolutely enthralling story about a foolish duck who places her trust in a stranger who ingratiates himself to her. Jemima is a duck who lacks patience, perseverance and discernment. She flees a place of safety and care to find a place to lay her eggs but unfortunately befriends a fox. The fox tells her what she wants to hear and offers her everything she needs to lay her eggs. There are hints that this fox shouldn't be trusted, but Jemima ignores them. Some might object to the sad ending, but books are a safe place to learn hard lessons. In this case, the lesson is that people who agree with everything you say and bend over backward to accommodate you may not always looking out for your best interest. My preschooler loves this book for the beautiful illustrations and interesting dialogue. He doesn't understand the moral lesson yet, but the point of good literature is to place the story in the child's mind so that later, when he is more mature, he has an existing narrative to compare real-life experiences against.

Not to be missed
I bought this to accompany a gift (a dress made from a Jemima Puddleduck print) for a little girl of my acquaintance. This was my daughter's favorite story at 2 (she's 34 now). She wouldn't part with her copy, so I had to buy a new one:) It's a sweet tale of a duck who wants to hatch her own eggs and runs afoul of a crafty fox. Just enough suspense to keep a very young listener on the edge of his or her seat, but a happy ending for all (except maybe that naughty foxy fellow).

Peter Rabbit Stories, The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck One of six I purchased of the series.
These books are so wonderful to read to the little ones. My mother read them to me and never forgot them. They are being passed on.

A cautionary tale
This is another great Beatrix Potter story. It provides a good lesson for children on not getting too friendly with strangers, however charming. There is danger involved, although Jemima is unaware of it, and [spoiler alert!] some violence, perpetrated off-scene by dogs, which results in one minor sad incident and an indeterminate. possibly more serious one.

What can I say about this cute, but "stupid" duck?
This is an absolutely charming book. By itself, the book is a wonderful gift for a new baby. Couple it with a Jemima Puddle Duck stuffed animal and you have a gift that will be treasured for years. I like the small book because it is sometimes hard to hold a grandchild AND a book while you read to them. Besides, the smaller book is reminiscent of the original book. All in all, I would highly recommend this book.
