WELL Worth It, Easily!
This system is working extremely well! This year, I bought my first pool (16x48 round) and eschewed the cartridge pump that came with it and bought this instead. Although I did refer to the instructional DVD after each few steps, overall, it was so easy to assemble and set up that I was almost afraid to turn in on, for fear that I must have done something wrong. Turned it on and it went to work immediately. I had already filled the pool and added the necessary salt (by the way, if you're paying more than $6 - $8 per 40 lbs of salt, you're getting ripped off! Check Wally World). I was surprised how quiet it runs. Once I got all the air out, I could barely even hear it if I'm standing within 5-6 feet of it. It's maybe a peep louder than a typical computer fan. Water is so clear that looking at the clear parts, I can't even tell water is moving through the thing! We've used the pool about 4-5 times in the past two weeks and have no issues with water clarity or quality. Water is crystal clear with not even a hint of milkiness or green. And with the salt, I don't wind up with dry, ashy skin, which is great. I used crushed glass instead of sand for a few reasons: (1) the sand I almost bought was going to cost almost $40 PER BAG to ship (ridiculous) and (2) my understanding is, with regular back-washing, glass will last 4-5 years, (3) you can use about 20% less of it than you would sand, and (4) you don't have to run the pump as long to get the same results. I'm glad I made this purchase, not only for the reasons already stated, but because of the lower maintenance and chemical needs going forward. I recommend it highly.

Awesome pump
We bought this pump as an upgrade for the pump that came with the intex 24 x 12 ft rectangular pool. It has kept our water crystal clear with zero effort. We did buy and use the hose adapter set as an additional purchase. The instructions were not clear on how to adapt it to the pool bc the pool has two holes for water to go out to the pump. We used some of the hoses from the pump that came with the pool and connected them in a “T” configuration to the valve that locks/unlocks at the top. The hoses that connect to the pool just slip into place and were secured with the provided hose clamps. It was much easier to figure out after the pump was put together and there were fewer loose pieces to choose from. Some clear directions would have been nice. But- that’s the only negative thing I have to report. It took 3 bags of sand to fill the pump. We did use the saltwater feature also. For our pool I used 6 40 lb bags of salt. It is a bit too salty and I wish I had only used 5 and added more if needed. The pump senses and will alert you if the salt level is too low or too high. Our water is in range but I would have preferred to be at the lower end of that so e water doesn’t taste salty in your mouth. We cut the wooden palate that the pool came packaged on and used that to place the pump on to keep it off of the ground and it has worked perfectly. You program the pump to run and generate chlorine automatically based on the size pool and the outside temp. There is a chart in the manual. We ended up Increasing our program time by 2 hours a day to keep the chlorine levels in range. That’s it. It has worked perfectly. You do have to add stabilizer initially. That is the only chemical that we has to use so far. I can’t believe how effortless this pump makes having clear clean pool water is. It is definitely worth the price.

Buy it for freedom from daily chemical testing
This is the best purchase of the summer. I bought a 12' x 30" pool for my kids this summer and I am a stickler for maintaining proper chemical levels. I was checking the pool every other day and adding bleach (chlorine) to keep the levels maintained. Check (...) for the proper chemical levels for your pool (Chlorine, PH, CYA, etc.). This pump took some modifications to make it work with my pool (summer escapes 12'x30") but with a few fittings and cutting a larger return hole in the liner it was up and running. You will need to buy pool sand. None of the big box home improvement stores carried it locally, but ACE hardware did and if they didn't they would ship it to the store for free. One 50lb bag was not enough sand, so buy 2. You will also need to buy salt. I used the blue bags of Solar salt from the local hardware store. The manual tells you how much salt to add based on your pool size. I aimed a little higher as it will only go down as water is splashed out and when you backwash the filter. Once setup you will need to program it to run. The Pump/filter and Chlorine generator both run at the same time unless you are in the FP mode (manual filter only). You will need to program the number of hours you want it to run from 1-12. There is a page in the manual the guides you on how long to run it as a baseline depending on the size of your pool. If start it at 2:00 in the afternoon it will run starting a 2:00 every day for the number of hours you programmed then it will go into sleep mode. Be sure to get a decent pool test kit as you will still need to balance your chemicals. I recommend the Taylor FAS-DPD kit. TAYLOR TECHNOLOGIES INC K-2006 TEST KIT COMP CHLORINE FAS-DPD This is a large pump/ chlorine generator for my sized pool. I took my CYA levels up to 70PPM based on the recommendations at troublefreepool.com. This would be correct in most pools, but even running the pump for only an hour a day my chlorine levels were too high. The lonly way to lower CYA is to drain and refill. I dropped my CYA levels to 30ppm and I can run my pump for 3 hours a day and keep my chlorine levels at the right level for safety and cleanliness. Now that I have the levels established I only test my water weekly and it is always spot on. Issues: When in sleep mode the only I have been able to wake it is by turning it off and back on. It would be nice to be able to wake it to FP mode (filter only) to vacuum my pool and them put it back to sleep. I just turn it off and back on. Unfortunately this resets the time of day that the generator is running, but it remembers the number of hours you set previously. Update 2019 - Upgraded to a 16'x48" pool this year. Upon setting this up for year 4 it had a horrible whine. The front motor bearing had gone bad. I was able to disassemble the unit and replace both motor bearings to get it back up and running. Original bearing was a 608Z which is a shielded, but unsealed bearing. Just not a good choice for the environment. I replaced both bearings with 608-RS2 sealed bearings for a few bucks and was back up and running. I hope to get another 2 or 3 years out of it. This made it 3 seasons with no problems. With a sealed bearing from the factory it likely would have gone a few more years on its own. I still highly recommend it for the convenience of daily automatic dosing of chlorine. My only wish is that I could run chlorine on a separate timer from the pump. I have been adjusting CYA levels to optimize run time. Also this will run the intex automatic pool cleaner just fine. The pool cleaner is amazing.

This sand filter/saltwater unit was the best money I could have spent on my pool!! Easy to setup with the newer plunger valves and it has worked great from day one. The only negative is that I had to wrap some of the plastic threads with Teflon tape so the fittings would tighten up without popping off. Other than that it is amazing!! The water is crystal clear and so soft... no stinky after pool chlorine smell at all!! Very satisfied. 😊👍🏻
