This is absolutely beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised to find it is larger than I originally expected, and surprisingly well made. The inside is glazed and shiny, but the outside doesnt have a shiny coating, so it's matte and not glossy at all. It's one solid piece, and thus does not open and close, and is definitely ceramic so it WILL break if you drop it. My dwarf hamster doesn't do a whole lot with it, but she does look cute in it and it makes a great treat or food dish. This would fit a Syrian hamster too, no problem.

My husband's and my gerbils, Sam & Dean, approve of this shell for their weekly dust bath. <3 They are males & large/muscular for gerbils, but they both fit in here with extra room for turning around, which was my biggest concern when looking for a dust bath. The cute hamster ceramic dust bath's (with the ears on top) were simply too small for these 2, since they do nearly everything together being bonded brothers. :) The Winchesters (as they are sometimes called when they are moving too fast for me to tell them apart - Sam is slightly lighter colored than Dean) sometimes dig into the shell, but no scratches have formed. They also tend to chew on everything, so we couldn't give them a plastic bath, without them chewing it to bits, as is common with gerbils. Dean, in particular, is a very destructive guy, so he tried to chew on the shell, but quickly learned that it was a terrible chew, yet no marks were left on it from the chewing. The shell's curved design allows for easy dust bathing of hard to reach places (Dean always forgets to wash behind his ears, so this helps him get at least some dust back there). It's beautiful, it's roomy for 2 large gerbils, sturdy, durable, and heavy so it won't tip over by overenthusiastic gerbil play! Thank you for a wonderful gerbil dust bath!P.S. Also this will fit a Syrian Hamster quite well, for those wondering about whether not the largest pet hamster species would enjoy this. <3

I got this as it was advertised under chinchilla bath house and I have a baby chinchilla. It is glass so if your pet likes to chew I would be careful. It is also very small. It would only fit an animal about the size of a hamster in to it so do not get it for anything bigger. It is very cute but maybe not so functional for pets as if they chew they could break it and ingest the glass.

Update ! I still needed a “cute cave” for my new Electric Blue Rams (fish) and so I got the aquarium cleaned out and ready and put this with aquatic plants and it looks great! Hubby even likes it and says it does not look cheesy or out of place he says it looks like a big conch shell beautiful - we love it and it sure beats the rather mundane aquarium “caves” for fish - it’s top notch!I love the size and it is cute - I originally ordered this for my aquarium as a "cave" for future RAM fishes...however it just does not look like a real shell and hence in my white sand aquarium...I think it would look a bit "cheesy" therefore I am going to use it to hold my earrings - I was hoping for a little more authenticity in the look of the shell but that being said...in the pics here it does not look authenticate either....so I cannot blame the product.

I was really excited to get this clam shell, but unfortunately it was broken into many pieces upon receipt.I still wanted to see what it should have looked like though, so I patched it up temporarily with some tape and could see that it would have been really nice. Of course, I’ll be throwing this away now haha, but the ceramic quality seemed nice, and the blue color on the inside looked really cute.This shell would have been great for any sized hamster and seemed to be well crafted, but maybe they should put more attention into the actual packing of the product so their hard work won’t go to waste. There was little protection within the box, and it did not say ‘fragile’ or anything on the outside. Luckily I was able to get a refund.

My Syrian Hamster loves her new little clam shell sand bath. I baked a little play sand to kill any parasites in it, put a little in the shell and put it in her cage. She likes to go in there and dig around and roll a bit.

I bought this for a summer cage theme thinking it wouldn’t get much use, but my Syrian hamster LOVES this little hide!! It is the first place he goes when he wakes up. The clam is a nice cool place for him to go to beat our summer heat. Since this is his favorite hide, I guess there will be a clam in every cage theme I do:-)The only issue I have with it is the shotty paint job, but that is simply cosmetic and my hamster sure doesn’t care.

My Syrian hamster loves it! At first he was really scared of it, but after a few hours, he really took to it. It's easy to clean and we can fill it with sand or bedding. He does like to use it as a bathroom though. :-)
