Versatile, excellent value for money, and stop over thinking this purchase!
A really versatile modifier - the inside of the canopy is somewhat silvered, although not as much as a ‘silver’ reflector, whilst the outside, if you remove the black cover, is a white shoot-through. That gives you: a semi-silvered reflector (with the black cover on), a basically white reflector (with the cover off) albeit ever-so slightly more stark than a pure white satin version, plus a shoot-through which is about as transparent as a regular white satin umbrella. That’s a lot of options for the space this takes up in your kit, and a heck of a lot for the money. Is it the most durable, professional modifier known to man? No, and why do you need it to be? Are you a highly paid portrait god? No, or someone would be paying you to use their kit. This, however, is fine for most realistic uses and this size is a good 1-2 person reflector for basic shots. Is it good value? Yes. Absolutely. Could you spend more and get a better product? Sure, but this is pretty much at the apex of the cost/value curve in my opinion.

MAN I'm glad I picked up this umbrella
When I picked up my previous Speedlite and light stand, I got a silvered umbrella. After using it for a while and going through some of the exercises on The Strobist, I wanted to give a shoot-through a try. MAN I'm glad I picked up this umbrella. It's got good, solid construction, it's easy to remove the black layer, and it has a nice uniform color cast. I've used it with and without gels, and it works great. It's my go-to umbrella at this point.I use it as a shoot-through so often I was almost considering taking the black layer out of my bag. But then I did a tabletop shoot that needed some flagging to control the spill of light. On a whim I put the black layer on the inside of the umbrella, attached it to just four points, and draped it to act like a flag. That worked great, and let me get a nice fall-off toward the background. I have yet to use the black layer to turn it into a reflective umbrella, but I'm keeping it in my bag now to act as a flag.I'm still using the silvered umbrella for fill, but I'd like to pick up a second one of these to make my setup more versatile.

These umbrellas are great for the price. Only issue, this one isn't shoot thru
These umbrellas are great for the price. I purchased two of them. They're great to use with large groups to balance and reflect the light. But one thing I didn't realize, these are not shoot thru umbrellas. I bought with the intention of using them as shoot thru at times.Other than that, these are pretty decent.

this is the best umbrella! I highly recommend it
For the price, this is the best umbrella! I highly recommend it. It has a great quality construction and it seems that it can handle a couple of drops, as the ribs are flexible. The material has good reflection and it seems to be white/silver-ish. The removable black cover is easy to remove, but you need to consider that you need to un-attach point by point, so you need a little bit of time to remove it.However, I got three cons (which, even with this cons, I 100% recommend this umbrella)- The black cover isn't very thick, so if you use high power in your flash, some power can be lost through it when trying to use it as bounce.- When you remove the black cover, it needs to be slided, and doing that generates static electricity, which is such a pain when touching something metallic.- The sewing of the reflective material to the ribs seem a little cheap and not durable.

Great Quality Umbrella for your Lighting System!
Amazing quality umbrella that I've been using with my Alienbee lighting setup for portraits and other creative photoshoots. When taking the umbrella out of their protective sleeve, you can immediately feel the great quality from the materials its made from. It does not feel cheap and flimsy compared to a lot of other umbrellas that you might find online. Opening the umbrella for use and then closing it for storage works just fine and there are no issues with any of the opening or locking mechanisms. It's really useful how you could remove the black backing too! You can create and adapt to a lot of different light setups since you can remove the black umbrella backing.I purchased two of these umbrellas and haven't had any regrets! I assure that you won't have any regrets after purchasing this umbrella either!

the 45" size is a good general size
I first was introduced to these umbrellas at our local Community College Photo department. They are substantial and work well. The shaft is solid metal and the cover works as well as any I have tried. the 45" size is a good general size. I haven't used them (2) on a large group yet but think they will do an adequate job. Also haven't shot through it enough to compare to a soft box but I expect reasonable results. Glad I bought them. I figure if they can hold up in a college photo lab they can hold up and work for me.

Versatile and solid.
This works well. The black cover makes it into a bounce umbrella. With it removed it functions as a shoot-through. There is a slight silver sheen to the inside, which helps with reflection and makes the diffusion even. It seems well enough made for what it is. I've taken it on 8 shoots now and it still looks new. The light is pretty even with no hot spots. This is a good occasional light modifier and a good price. Get a diffusion cover to clip on and it's a fair soft box substitute.

Impact Convertible Umbrella
The umbrella is great, reflects the flash just how I want it to, much easier to set up at weddings than a light box. Just be careful, I had it set up at home doing some photography and a grandchild pushed the stand causing the umbrella to strike the wall, I wasn't in the room. This light bump bent one of the umbrella spines, I was able to bend it back being very careful, lucky for me it didn't bend too far out of shape, so it's not as bullet proof as the non-metallic spine umbrellas, but works great for what it's suppose to do.

Nice color, its an umbrella
Nice color, its an umbrella, nothing extraordinary, if it stops working or it breaks apart i'll lower the rating. But for now its perfect!
