Velcro has a long line of products including an Extreme strength for outdoors. There’s a special line to be used with fabric in a variety of lengths and widths.

In this package there are 2 "sets" of 2" x 4" strips. 2 strips of fuzzy + 2 sets of the hook side. I have purchased this items several times & it is very tough & strong. This is great stuff & excellent quality. And, of course, youj can always cut it to fit. Most of the time I have cut the strips in half so that I have 4 "sets".

Q: Would this work in a dorm room (painted cinder block walls) to hold up posters and other various things?

Yes it should as long as the items are not too heavy. Just make sure you clean the wall before attaching and also that you let the adhesive settle before you put any weight on it.

Q: Would using the velcro strips to hang a laminated world map work well?

It will hold the laminated map very well
