Like the books of Philippe Claudel, Le petite fille is easy to read but surprising and sympathetic. I’m learning French and we read it in my French book club.

This book is a little jewel.At the beginning you start building an image of what is going on, and you seem to understand the situation. But somewhere in the middle doubt sets in. Things don't seem to add up. Ah, well, you think: this book is so well written, and I love Monsieur Linh so much, I will read on.Even so, it seems strange that Claudel seems unaware of the strangeness of some of the things he writes.Until, at the end, all becomes clear. You, the reader, are the one who didn't see what was going on all the time. The end is perfectly logical. This very small, very satisfying, VERY beautiful and sweet litte book is something you just MUST read.In a tiny way, it will change your life.

I read in French, but I think that this is a book for not only french people, but also for americans and british. The final page is a masterpiece: the surprise is total. Only a few can think of something like that before reading the last page.And the friendship between a victim of a crazy imperial war and the ex-soldier that beg for forgiveness for all the mal he has done. Tres bien ecrit, emouvant.

Fabulous novel about the heartbreaking grief and loneliness of a war refugee.

I liked this book very much. A kind of love story between this isolated, struggling refugee and this large French man with a guilty past. Highly recommended.

Love it! War consequences - an old man lost his family, except her little granddaughter which is few months old. He moved to a new place and needs to make sure they both can survive. Very touching story, the author used little details to describe the ambiance, feelings, characters which gives you a feeling you are there and can see it and feel it - signature of a true great writer. It a book mostly about the human nature than about the war. Philippe ClaudeI does a great job on tried to put you in the characters shoes. I would recommend it for anyone who love to read about feelings, humanity, personalities etc.

C'est une histoire touchante d'un vieil homme plein de determination, de souffrance et d'espoir dans la souffrance. L'ecrivain se cache derriere l'homme et je ne peux pas poser quelques questions qui m'agacent. A la fin je comprends.

El libro ha llegado en perfecto estado y además con un marcapáginas de la asociación. Una historia bonita y triste al mismo tiempo. Libro recomendable.
