Author repeats several elements of the narrative--it's as though he doesn't have enough to say about Mr Laurie . The author captures MrLaurie's remarkable talent though he may have write the book too soon because there str more and very interesting chapters in Hugh Laurie's career since the book was published.

Not exhaustive, but informative and fun
True this biography is not a 'tell all', but provides enough personal and public information to make it a delightful read.I have enjoyed Mr. Laurie and his works since I first saw him on Black Adder. Who among us truly wants to talk about every detail of our personal lives and actually have it in print.New fans will find enough information to make them want to explore more of his life and works, and old fans (if you are not terribly anal about every little detail; ah, Fry and Laurie), will enjoy the presentation of (what by many may seem to be limited), early history and then continuing up to the last couple of years including his work on House MD.Currently there is nothing else out there with the information provided in this book. I found it to be complete enough and enjoyed the lack of egotism found in so many other celebrity biographies.

A bit short and more detail would have been nice. However it was an interesting read.

An utter waste of woodpulp
WARNING: This review only applies if you are already a Hugh Laurie fan. If you know next to nothing about the man, you might find it an interesting read. The above sentence says it all. I bought this book looking for information that I couldn't find at IMDb, or in reading reviews of his work and the odd interview that he's managed to give over the years. It actually has LESS information than you can find at IMDb ... and seems to have been written by someone whose only contact with Hugh is READING those reviews and interviews he's given over the years.I was looking for information about his early life, but by page 17 we're already at Eton and we get to Cambridge on page 21. I was looking for information about Hugh's family, but the author covers his marriage in two paragraphs, mentions his oldest son twice and the other two children only in passing. His brother is mentioned once and his two sisters not at all - not even their names!I know Hugh isn't one to talk a lot about his family, but it's plain from even a cursory reading that the author of this book didn't personally interview anyone, much less anyone who actually KNOWS the man.Save your money and buy Hugh's movies. At least those will make you laugh.

Great book!
This is a very good read, but it is not written by Hugh Laurie. Information is taken from interviews he has given for publications and put together for the book. Some of it I had read previously from other sources, but generally a good, informative book. I was pleased with it.

Facinating
A very honest review of his life. He doesn't skip the bad parts or exaggerate the good ones. He's a most unusual man.

Hugh Laurie BIO
Fo ran individual to have such a dark view on life as his character in HOUSE, this biography came as a wonderfully light and entertaining insite in beings that is Hugh Laurie - a truely amazing actor and individual.

Insultingly Awful
How how how could such a travesty ever be printed?! It is insulting to such a great man that his biography had to be such a mess. Presumably the author does this for a living? That is, being a biographer isn't normally just an innocent hobby. So how could someone in this profession write with such glaring grammatical errors? Words missing, miss-spelled, errors of grammar that ten year olds shouldn't make... It's not even something that can be just skimmed over, they are right in your face and there are just too many to mention! On top of this every editor and proofreader thereafter missed them all too. Were they all reading with their eyes closed? It's not just grammar either; it repeats itself, follows no proper kind of structure and contradicts itself. An example of that last one is in reference to Hugh's famous House audition tape in 2003 - bearing in mind he was born in 1959 - the prologue calls it 'the most important audition of the 37-year-old's life'. Fast forward to the section where the book revisits this same event and Laurie is now apparently 45.It is an absolute shambles, if it was a school essay I'd throw it away and say 'start again'. It is in fact a published book that we're expected to pay £7.99 for, when in fact the writing is so lame and the insights so second hand and haphazard it may as well be the former. So I think in this instance I'd say give all that money back, apologise to Laurie for putting his name on such a waste of paper, and help finance a new one - signed off by the man himself because then I guarantee it would be pristine.Don't get me wrong there is some reasonable content in there and for posterity I'm glad I own it. But it is so disappointing that a few glances here and there tell you how shameful it is. In contrast, the first lines of Laurie's 'the Gun Seller' tell you you're reading a masterpiece.

Good price
The price paid was excellent, however, it was supposed to be in a very good state and I would certainly not class it as that - the spine was well worn and the front cover was quite crinkly, it doesn't matter as I bought it for my own pleasure but I definitely would not have been happy if I was giving it to someone else.

Take me to your leader....
After the first few pages I was hugely disappointed.Anthony Bunko writes as if I've just landed from outer space, am totally ignorant in the ways of British life, customs and comedy and have a desire to be patronised to death.I'm not quite sure who this book was aimed at. But like some of your other reviewers I found it a little like eating a thick sandwich of irrelevance with Hugh Laurie being the less than adequate filling.

The worst biography. I have ever read
The worst biography I have ever read. Badly written and lazily compiled. Lot of reliance on quotes and recourse to lists of favourite films or TV programmes. No attempt to examine the man himself. Also irritating padding where people associated with Hugh Laurie are introduced by the whole name - ie all Christian names. I could have written this better in less than a week. Made me wince and not a fitting tribute to a unique talent.

Slight disappointment
I was more than happy to learn more about a man I much admire, and found parts of the book truly hilarious - but could not help thinking that the biographer should have been chosen with more care. Bunko's style leaves a lot to wish for, and it is something of a pity that a wonderfully talented thespian, musician, and author was written up in a way reminding me of a nourishing, but strangely tasteless meal.

Excruciatingly awful
Full of lists of actors Hugh has worked with, badly written and doesn't seem to have been proof read or if it has then the proof reader should be sacked for missing the multitude of spelling and grammar mistakes. Is the author american? Lots of americanisms in the book. So poor I couldn't finish it.

I was surprised to find that this book was affixed with stickers stating that it came from Tower Hamlets library , but it did arrive in 100% condition with a plastic cover. Very happy to have it too .

A gift
Bought my husband it as a gift. He would have preferred it to have been an autobiography as the writer kept going off track. A good book though.
