The Histories

Great translation. Herodotus is known as the father of history, he should also be known as the father of the gossip column! Fun and engaging read.

I'm not positive but I do believe this is the first history book, and if your looking for a book on the history of the world from a Greek perspective, you found the right book.

Good introduction and translation. Handy format.

I bought this after finally making my first trip to Greece, and now wish I'd read it before I went--great insights and background, and quite readable (good illustrations too).

Outstanding for Egyptian information. Hence, he earn Satan's title as "the father of lies" by other historians

I would give 5 stars, except for some design and layout issues: the notes are at the rear of the book, very inconvenient, and the margins are a bit narrow for such a thick book. And I miss the traditional OUP blue cloth binding. The translation itself was modern, conversational, I'm glad I picked this edition to read.
