Great British Wit: The Greatest Assembly of British Wit and Humour Ever

Good but not Great
Rosmarie Jarski makes wonderful books.....i bought this 'British Wit' one based on the strength of 'The Funniest Thing You Never Said' and I have to say that 'British Wit' is nothing like as brilliant. It is an assembly of British Wit, for sure....and there are some cracking good quotes in there, but it lacks contrast.......in her previous book 'the funniest thing you never said', there is a whole spectrum of brilliant quotes from all over the world and it spices it up.British Wit is like listening to a music album where you start off reading it and like the first few songs, but then you want a change in tempo and it doesnt happen....so you press pause and come back to it in a week or so.I love her books though, she is a brilliant compiler of quotes and the 'Funniest Thing You Never Said' is the best of her books that I have read.

Deceiving title
I was originally buying this book as a birthday present for a friend. This book wasn't at all what I thought it would be. I was expecting witty quotes on a wide range of topics from important/famous British people. But it ended up being quotes about being British. Which for an American were not funny or relatable at all. I returned it.

Exhaustion
Sooo clever, some of these lines, that you can only digest about seven (half a pages' worth ) at a time. Hence this review's title. But it's worth it, because you can keep your favorites from this storehouse in your back pocket, and zip one of the best out at the right moment , thereby achieving the status of "a wit."

Do not buy this ...
...unless you are a masochist who likes wading through pages of utterly unfunny quotes and repetitive, tasteless puns about Mrs Slocomb's genitalia to find the few true pearls of wit and humour in this book. The cover states that this book is 'The greatest assembly of British wit and humour ever...' but don't be misled.

Worth a read
Bought as a present. Read the first few pages and a couple of paragraphs made me smile. May get better later on
