Superb customer service!
Superb customer service! I received the Pro Ears Gold from Amazon. I had some issues with the headband and with one cup that I couldn't get working. The service from the Altus Brands groups was outstanding! They provide new parts and checked out the electronics in both cups at no cost. They were very helpful and cordial with their correspondence and the headbands were returned to me in literally 8 days from the time I shipped them back. It just doesn't get any better than this folks. Altus stands behind their product and if you have problems they get involved and get issues resolved pronto! The hearing protection works very well. I can understand conversations with the protection in place and a sharp clap of the hands cuts off the external noise. External sound isolation seems to be excellent. They do have the highest noise reduction ratio of anything else advertised.

flaw in construction
Im at the range, second time I went to use them, so while putting them on, one of the plastic arms cracked right off and the right ear phone fell off on the floor. I tried to return to Amazon but it was past the 30 days. So it was hard trying to find the manufacture to honor the 5 year warranty. When I finally got a hold of them by phone, (they don't answer Mon or Tues) but emailed me when to call. Talking to the lady I gathered this is not unusual for the plastic arms to crack so they have replacements but you have to buy the whole arm set with the headband for $19.99. So instead of honoring the warranty, I had to pay for replacement. She explained that you have to put these ear muffs on carefully, not stretching the arms to get them on, but sliding them forward on your forehead first, or start from behind your head. BUT THE MUFFS CAME WITH NO INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO PUT THEM ON. I thought with the highest priced ones I could find they would be better for ear protection but I can't rate the protection if I'm paranoid I'll be at the range and they break before I even get to wear them.

Pro Ears Ear Protection
Product seems to work. Haven't tried it at the range yet. But have tried to register the product unsuccessfully. In order to do so you need the Model Number and Serial Number which are no where to be found on the product that I can find. The product is suppose to be Pro Ears Gold Series but it does not show Pro Ears Gold on the muffs like is shown on (...) for the Gold series. The pamphlet that came with it covers Ultra series, Pro series, and Gold series but does not identify which series you have. But from the appearance, it seems to be the Pro Series not the Gold Series. But since I can't find a model or serial number I have no way of really knowing what series I have. And without that information I can't register it or ask other questions related to the product from Pro Ears themselves. So if you have questions about the Gain Jumper or the Audio Select Jumper that are supposed to be features on the Gold Series might as well forget it. Not super happy with this product for that reason. Pro Ears - Pro Mag Gold - Electronic Hearing Protection and Amplification - NRR 30 - Shooting Range Ear Muffs

The Rolls Royce of Ear Protection
Its funny because if you looked at just the ratings, one would think the Howard Leight ear protection is better, when you can't even hold a candle to this. Sure, these are expensive, but they are by far the best you can get, period. Anyone who tells you there is something better in terms of speed, technology, comfort and most importantly, reduction of dB of the dangerous sounds, is fooling you. These are the Rolls Royce of ear protection. And just like a Rolls will set you back a cool $300k+ compared to your Dad's $50k Cadillac, these are also 6x more expensive than the Howard Leight, or other equiv. Are they worth 6x the price? That's relative, to somebody who has a bunch of money or does this all day long, or really values their hearing, yes. If you are an occasional shooter, don't care too much about losing your hearing, don't need to hear every detail on the range, etc. then you can get by with cheaper ones. Me personally, I've tried everything, yet these are the only ones I wear on a daily basis. I've had my one pair for 6 years which in terms of total hours is almost 10,000 hours of use (I shoot 5-6 days a week for 1/3 day). I've gone through batteries, and also had to send them in to have the input plug fixed on the left side because my IPOD pulled it out accidentally, but besides that, they work as good now as they did when I got them. I do change the ear pads at least every 4 months just to keep the nasty smell minimized. I also highly recommend the cool pads to wick away sweat.I also have a pair of the smaller units, and while smaller, they are noticeably less protection. I can definitely tell a difference between 30NRR & 28NRR, and most people can really hear a difference when going from 30 & 25.Bite the bullet, you will be happy you did.
