Nice Reliable but older Drives
Bought one of the "Gold" drives as I have a few already. The one I received is an older model as it does not have a date on the sticker and does not support "smart" status. but that does not bother me too much. If you look at the design/spec sheet of these Enterprise Class drives they have a VERY high MTBF. Failure rate is very low so I do not worry about the warranty . I work in a Corp environment with 100's of Employees and lots of Computers and there are some drive failures daily. Not many Western though. Yes they do make noise when in use . But I have come to like the noise as I can tell when my drive is in use and being accessed. You might be surprised when you think you machine is idle that a browser is banging on your drive in the background. Nice drives /Great price.

Good Drive
I have used this drive in a RAID enclosure for a Mac Pro. When I install a new drive, I always burn them in for several days by writing large files onto the drive and run diagnostics, these drives pass with flying colors. They appear to be new-old stock units, they's come in a sealed static proof plastic drive and externally they look like they have not been previously used. And the price per drive is excellent.

Good budget drive
Great price for a Western Digital RE drive. These are old-stock, OEM drives, so you can forget about a warranty from Western Digital. But that is why they are priced so low. If you want a new drive warranty, pay twice the price for a new, retail drive. As a side note, I purchased four of these drives (exact same model) from a different seller and I received used drives, with nearly 30,000 hours on them. The SMART data on this drive showed nine hours of use, which is the time I put on it during formatting and checkout. This one was indeed a new, unused drive. For anyone purchasing bare drives, I recommend you download a copy of Crystal Disk Info and check the SMART data on the drive as soon as you get it. In the last year, I have purchase 15 "new" bare drives and 11 of them turned out to be used, with anywhere from 900 to 30,000 hours of use.

Working fine
I got exactly what I saw in the description - a new drive that had been sitting on the shelf for a long time. I couldn't find a date on this drive label, but it is probably as others have said, about 2015. When I first turned it on I looked at the SMART data and this was the first time it had been turned on. It is a little noisy, but nothing outrageous.I am satisfied with this 2T drive and will likely purchase it again.

No Warranty from Western Digital
I can confirm what others are saying. No warranty from Western Digital. Purchased this drive on 09/24/2019 and registered it with Western Digital on 09/28/2019. WD sites says thanks for registering, Warranty expiration 10/05/2018. Purchasing "New" products like hard drives that typically come with 2-5 year warranties from sources like Amazon and Newegg are becoming notoriously more sketchy. That being said its tough because most instances if you can find the same product from a retails store like Best Buy or Staples, the retail store price is way more than Amazon and Newegg. I have worked for small computer shops, and you can't even purchase IT products as a shop through the distribution channels for the same price you can buy products on Amazon or Newegg but you can't trust what your getting through Amazon or Newegg anymore. What a sad/sketchy world it has become for IT consumers and small computer shops purchasing IT components for personal use, system builds, or resale. I love Western Digital products, I am sure the drive will perform great once I have hooked it up and confirmed it doesn't have years of run time on it, but it is definitely disappointing to learn that there is no warranty direct through WD on the "new" drive I just purchased.

THATS THE STATS FACTS
5 year warranty. The head park cycle is 600,000 and the data is 550TB a year or 1.5 TB a day 365 this is running 24 hours a day. This is a much better choice for RAID or NAS as the magnetic error rate is 10^15 instead of 10^14 with NAS drives. NAS RAID 5 with 7 drives with one failing during rebuild as of the year 2009 the re-build would fail due to a magnet bit going bad causing a total failure of the rebuild and loss of all data. RAID 5 or 6 and enterprise drives suggest a solution. However large sized drives have a draw back when used as fast access, for example. we'll assign a value of 1 to a 2TB drive, a value of .5 to 4TB and a value of .33 to 6TB. What this represents is that if this is HOT data then to get to reoccurring data is a longer wait since the HDD is a serial device. To put numbers to this a pool of 1 (Pool1 2TB x4) is 85+ MBs at 70% full (older Qnap very small cache). Now if you were to make Pool1 + Pool2 + Pool3 your bandwidth would be 260+ MBs.

These are used.
The seller is blatantly lying to people saying that these HDDs are new when they are indeed either used or refurbished; refurbished would be a positive thing at least. But, either way since nothing was written anywhere on this page about it not being "used" then they are considered new. I received my hard drive which was nicely packaged and in anti-static bag. It had some scuffs on the side which looked like it was put in a computer and then taken out possibly multiple times. I didn't see that at first, however. When I opened it up I proceeded to install it but, when I got the magazine cartridge to wrap around the hard drive which then slides in the hard drive tray, I noticed someone had broken a screw off inside the screw hole. Now I can't use this hard drive because my computer case uses the screwless system. The HHD trays uses the screw holes which need to be empty in order to fit the cartridge around the drive and the entire thing fits into the main drive apparatus which is already installed in the computer.
