Packed with features.
Before I begin, I know how Amazon seems to merge product reviews, the item I ordered was:"The NKJV, Open Bible, Brown Genuine Leather, Red Letter, Comfort Print"The first thing you may notice is that my photos are of a black bible, not a brown one. They appear to have sent me the wrong colour. As it happens, I don't really care, however, be aware that if you are buying this for a gift or want a specific colour, check inside the box before you throw away that packaging (which is ideal for returns.)the NKJV is a good translation and the Open Bible presentation has a good reputation, I was happy to add this to my collection as I did not have a NKJV study bible (I had a think little one, which I like, but it lacks the extras)Personally, if someone tells me that they want a 'first' bible, I would point them at an NLT, for easy reading. Most Bible lovers end up with a bunch of translations on the shelf though, and I am very guilty of that! The good:This is an NKJV bible with some nice study features such as book intros and theological/prayer notes. The words of Jesus are in Red and it has thumb indexing. It sports two ribbons, red and back. The font is excellent, and it is printed in a verse-by-verse layout (so each verse beings on its own line, rather than being noted in the paragraphs), which is something I really like, however, for personal reading, rather than study, I can see it being annoying. The paper has minimal ghosting (It's there, it's just not as bad as a lot of Bibles.) The book lays flat without an issue, and there is no gutter loss at all. Oh, and centre referenced! Which is great! The 'prophecies fulfilled' section and visual overview was particularly enjoyable to read. The bad:The quality of the actual book is not stellar. The inner spine looks to be cheap card and the cover feels thin, despite claiming to be leather (I don't think it is.) The inlay is pasted down, not stitched, which I don't really mind; however, it feels like it may break with extended use (and it is going to get used extensively.)Also, it has stupid gold page gilding. Which I hate because it makes the pages stick together when you first start reading it... but that maybe just my pet peeve. What could be improved:build quality should go up a notch for the price. It's not terrible, but for the cost, could be better. - Other than that, I really like what is contained within. It's a good printing.
