CRAFTSMAN Pliers, 6Piece Mini Set with Pouch (CMHT81716)

If you are doing small precision work, but not of the delicate type, then these are for you. They are heavy duty and will probably last forever, but I would not recommend them for delicate work as they are heavy, with heavy jacketing. These are great for electronics, small appliances, small precision mechanical devices etc. I am very happy with them and especially like the handy little carrying case.

This set is high quality, as expected with the Craftsman name. The case makes these very convenient and I have used them several times and the variety has come in handy.

The cutters and side cutters wouldn’t cut any wire, even the thinnest. I’m not sure what the deal is because craftsman used to make excellent tools. The pliers and needle nose seem okay but they are all very light and feel cheaply made. I’m done with craftsman. Unfortunately I didn’t use them at the time and now the return window is closed.

Overall for the money, this small hand tool set will suit my occasional use and needs just fine. If you’re familiar with Made in China pliers, dykes and nipper, more often than not, the most important feature, jaws and tips that close tightly, falls woefully short. When holding this set closed and up to the light, ALL closing points are nice and tight with no visible light shining past / through. The “spring open” feature is nice (and actually needed) on such an entry level priced tool. The covered grips seem as though they’ll provide a good purchase for most jobs. My only complaint ( Four Star Reasoning vs Five Stars) is the storage case is pretty cheesy. #1 placing the tools in and out of the elastic straps is inconvenient. #2 those aforementioned elastic straps WILL quickly lose its “stretch”. #3 the case is inadequately sized when all tools are incased AND the zipper takes the brunt. A big part of my decision to purchase this set WAS the included case. I’ll most likely store these tools in a dedicated drawer in my tool chest and find another storage use for the case like my mini /micro screwdrivers and tungsten rifling files. Bottom line, good set for occasional use, PROS need better stuff IMO (happily retired licensed mechanic myself!)

Not sure who makes Craftsman now, but these are just as good as the original. Would buy again.

I can't speak to durability---will only be using these a few times a year. They're sturdy, reasonably priced, and feel solid in the hand. My hand is 9" from tip of thumb to tip of pinky when stretched out and these are very comfortable. Best thing about these, so for the jaws are always all the way open so one doesn't have to hassle with opening jaws and then closing them. I gave the pouch away---what a hassle to use it---I prefer first order retrieval tool storage.

I've been using Craftsman tools for years due to the great value and warranty. Is this the best mini pliers set? No. But it did the job for what I needed them for and firmly believe I can get many uses out of these pliers. It even comes with a case that feels quite durable to protect your pliers from scratches or rust. Overall I'm really satisfied with this product and don't forget about the incredible warranty only Craftsman can offer.
