Helpful for enhanced cellular energy function and possibly fibromyalgia
Magnesium Malate is one of the lesser known magnesium combinations. Malate is a substrate in the cellular energy cycle, improving ATP and ADP production. These are the molecule that fuel energy and life. Increased cellular energy function is helpful for athletes, and studies indicate this may be helpful in reducing muscle pain and tenderness in fibromyalgia as well as improve chronic fatigue symptoms. Improvement in pain was observed within 48 hours of supplementation with 1200 – 2400 mg. But I caution against using this amount. In my experience you are likely to get diarrhea. Like magnesium citrate, this form can cause diarrhea if too much is taken (an indication it is not being fully absorbed). I recommend beginning with 400 mg and increase by 100 mg/day until symptoms improve.1000 mg/day is generally considered safe. Some people experience immediate pain relief and an increase in energy at this level. If loose stools develop consider breaking up the daily amount into 3-4 doses. Taking this with a full meal that includes fat aids digestion and lessens the possibility of gastric upset and diarrhea. With all magnesium you should watch for irregular heartbeat when you first start supplementing. If this develops just cut back and increase gradually. Although magnesium toxicity is rare, caution is urged for those with impaired kidney function, children and the elderly who could be at greater risk of developing magnesium toxicity. This particular brand is an excellent product -- very pure with no toxic fillers or lubricating agents. The only down side to the powder is its bitter taste. But that's a small price to pay to eliminate cellulose or gelatin capsules which are not as harmless as most people think. It mixes fairly well so just take it in a small amount of juice and knock it back quickly. :-) For those with a sensitive digestive system, magnesium taurate and magnesium glycinate are less stimulating and better absorbed by the body and less likely to cause loose stools, gas, etc. Magnesium glycinate is thought to be the best over-all form of magnesium where bioavailability is concerned and is good for relaxation and anxiety; and magnesium taurate is also a relaxant that is good for the heart and for lowering blood pressure. But these forms have not demonstrated the pain reduction in fibro that magnesium malate has. I take magnesium malate and magnesium taurate for the specific benefits of each (fibro and high bp). I can take a larger combined daily dose without causing loose stools because the magnesium taurate isn't problematic, but I still monitor my total magnesium intake each day. I take mag malate during the day because it can be stimulating, and mag taurate before bed because it is more relaxing - sometimes added to a cup of hot Natural Calm – puts me right to sleep! (Natural Calm is magnesium ion citrate which is a lesser absorbed form of magnesium. Note that manufactures will sometimes add the less expensive mag citrate to these more expensive forms of magnesium, especially magnesium glycinate) I also occasionally rotate with magnesium orotate - a form that is excellent for heart health, angina and exercise performance. Orotates aid the formation of RNA and DNA and can penetrate the cell membranes enabling an effective delivery system deep within the cells to the mitochondria and nucleus. I generally take magnesium taurate every day to control high blood pressure, but I alternate the magnesium malate with magnesium orotate. I also use a little DIY magnesium oil as a safe, natural and inexpensive deodorant. I mention these other forms of magnesium because it's a good idea to mix it up a bit to ensure maximum delivery. No one form of magnesium works for everyone. If you find one specific form works better for you then go with it. Be sure to also take vitamins D and K each day to aid bioavailability. Contrary to belief, calcium should NOT be taken with magnesium; take them several hours apart. Studies have shown calcium is antagonistic towards magnesium and they act biochemically to cancel each other out. Here’s a great article regarding magnesium malate and fibromyalgia. (But I do not recommend the brand of magnesium malate in the article due to the addition of the toxic fillers Stearic acid, silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate.) http://www.smartbodyz.com/Magnesium-Malate-Ingredients-Dose.htm Over all, this is a pure product and highly recommended especially for those dealing with fibromyalgia or anyone looking for enhanced cellular energy function. bought for chronic fatigue
Been using for a few days. The taste, for starters, can be easily masked by flavoring. Not sure why there are so many complaints about that. Sure the flavor by itself isn't that pleasant, but that also means that it isn't being enhanced by high fructose corn syrup or other undesirable additives. Add it to juice. You'll be fine. Personally, I have been adding a scoop to 20ozs of water with a superfoods dissolvable tab and a few drops of colloidal silver first thing in the morning and that works perfectly for me. I get all my supplements in one go. I have not found the powder to be gritty either. I wonder if some people who complain about that got an older batch? Mine dissolves fine in cold water. The packaging was airtight on mine too, so perhaps that was an issue for those experiencing grittiness. I recommend working up to the full dose over a few days. Since I've been taking magnesium supplements for years, I went ahead and did the full dose right away and I did have some gi upset. That was my bad though as I had been taking mag citrate and there must be a difference in absorption by the body. So far I feel that it might be helping with my anxiety and possibly energy. I have chronic fatigue and muscle pain and magnesium malate is supposed to help alleviate those symptoms. It seems like a product I'll continue to use to keep my magnesium levels up.

Pure, Inexpensive, and Effective in aiding sleep, digestion, muscle recovery, fatigue, etc.
After trying many forms and brands of Magnesium, this so far has been my favorite. The best thing about it is there are no other added ingredients, such as ascorbic acid, which occasionally can cause allergic reactions. Malate is thought to be beneficial in conditions such as fibromyalgia and softening hardened kidney stones and gallstones. Magnesium malate is indicated as being potentially helpful for conditions like depression, migraines, and chronic fatigue syndrome. In my case, I've found it helps with digestion, sleep, lessening anxiety, and helping in muscle recovery. I take a scoopful each night before going to bed and one container lasts me about 4-5 months, which makes this product about $5 a month--a great deal for such a high quality product. Just a note, if you are prone to looser bowels, this may not be for you and Magnesium Glycinate might be an alternative.

Magnesium malate powder is great
I have been using this every day for two months now and I believe that it is helping me with my chronic muscle spasms and pain in my shoulders, neck, head, and face. Magnesium is known to be helpful for muscle spasms and the malate kind does not upset my stomach or cause any issues. The taste, however, is a little weird. Although the taste is more neutral and light, the best way I can describe it is like fish and butt. At the moment I mix half a scoop (250mg) into a shot of flavored vitamin water. I do this so I can drink it down quickly and the flavored water does somewhat help with the taste of the magnesium powder and makes it easier to manage swallowing it down. Then I drink some plain water to help the rest of the powder residue to go down. This method has helped me manage taking this everyday so I would definitely recommend this product. Even though I attempt to mask the taste, It isn't the grossest tasting product out there and you may be able to get away with just mixing in a shot of water which I was able to do prior to my flavored water method.

Magnesium Malate Powder by Seeking Health is Great
I am giving Magnesium Malate Powder 5 stars for two reasons: it works and the product is pure--has no added ingredients. A few comments about Magnesium Malate.... In doing a bit of research about types of Magnesium, I came across the Malate form that is suggested for pain--specifically for those with conditions like fibromyalgia. Now, I do not know if that is my issue but I do have unspecified muscle pain especially after exercise. So, I ordered this Magnesium Malate Powder from Seeking Health since I do not like taking supplements in capsule/pill form. This Magnesium Malate powder has reduced muscle pain for me in a short time. I am quite amazed and happy. The powder mixes easily in water and though it does not taste great, I just drink it down quick and be done. I am doing this either twice a day (1/2 scoop each time) or at times, I take it four times a day (also in divided doses....500 mg total for the day). For me, it is not good to take this before bed because it keeps me awake. If I were to take Magnesium for sleep it would be Magnesium Gycinate or Magnesium Citrate. I am very appreciative and thankful for this Magnesium Malate powder. I believe I have actually found something that works and will continue to use this diligently toward my goal of eliminating pain. I take other forms of Magnesium as well since I am deficient in this important mineral. Magnesium Malate powder is now part of my daily regimen for its pain relieving properties.

not usable by the body
this product is insoluble in water. Which means it cannot be absorbed by the intestines and is therefore not usable by the body.... I added lemon juice and after 12 hours it did dissolve. Which means it became chelated, so obviously it was not chelated before and therefore is not magnesium malate, which is a chelated product.... so probably it’s just crude magnesium oxide which you can buy for pennies... so this is a fallacious product and why spend 20 times the amount for simple magnesium oxide??? it will take a full work up to determine if it even is magnesium at all... I recommend you don’t buy this product

Highly Recommend
This magnesium is absolutely wonderful. I have had a paradoxical reaction to most magnesium supplements (citrate and glycinate) for years. They have caused irritability, anxiety, muscle tension and insomnia. I know my body needs more magnesium so I figured as a last effort I would try magnesium malate. I am so glad I did. This product has made me feel wonderful in so many ways. It has greatly improved my mood, energy level, body aches, constipation and insomnia. I can take a full scoop at once or break it up twice a day and have had no negative side effects. As an added bonus, I notice it lowers blood sugar as well. I am not a diabetic, but if you are, I would encourage you to be extra vigilant when starting the magnesium malate to see the affect it may have on your blood sugar. The only downside for me is the taste, not very palatable (a bit fishy). That being said, the benefits gained form taking it greatly outweigh the taste. I heat up about two ounces of water, add the magnesium and let is dissolve then add juice or water and gulp it down. Works like a charm and I highly recommend it.
