Basic ICD-10-CM/PCS and ICD-9-CM Coding, 2015

This was the required textbook for my class. I complained to my university about it as well as most of my class mates did too. Our course covered ICD-10-CM. We learned nothing about PCS; which makes total sense. The book was primarily written for 9 and not 10. The index always referred you to the pages covering the ICD-9-CM information. It was a frustrating book.

After careful consideration of numerous texts for ICD-9-CM Coding I purchased Basic ICD-9-CM Coding 2010 Edition by Lou Ann Schraffenberger for self-study in preparation for obtaining a certificate in medical coding. Despite its title this is an intensive course text. Each chapter begins with a list of Learning Objectives and concludes with comprehensive Review Exercises. Chapters are neatly organized in outline format. Section headings, boldfaced type, and off-set examples greatly assist in leading the student through the content. The 2010 edition of ICD-9-CM is heavily referenced and therefore is a required additional book for students utilizing this text. Review exercise answers are not included. The text suggests Basic ICD-9-CM Coding Exercises, 2nd edition by the same author for additional practice and I concur. Earlier editions of each of these books are available and likely include most of the same detail. However, choosing the most current edition ensures up-to-date changes in law, regulations, and application of codes are communicated.  Basic ICD-9-CM Coding 2010

In today's ever changing healthcare environment it helps to have the tools to get the job done correctly. This book is a good tool for ICD 10 neurology coding. A nice adjunct to our EHR system.

I like to study on-line this did not come with an access card so that the contents of the book can be on-line,and I would be able to pull it up anything like on my break at work.

This text was a course requirement and although it was provided in electronic form, I feel having the actual book is better for me. I wasn't sure what to expect since I opted for the used version but it was in perfect condition!
