The Beer Book

I bought this book as a present for my oldest son who is a total beer snob, beer aficionado and brewery tour addict. So he knows his beer. I thought this would be great coffee table book for him and something to go along with the rest of beer paraphernalia. I however no next to nothing about beer and drink very little of it. So why did I purchase this book? First, I read all of the reviews on the book and was happy with what I read. But what really caught my eye was the beautiful large sized pictures of each bottle. I knew my son would love it because a big part of what he loves about beer is the packaging and the labels. In this book you can clearly read the labels and some details and history about each bottle. He also loves learning about where the beers are brewed and this book includes maps and brewery information as well. Winner! I even read quite a bit of the book before wrapping it and was very surprised to find it even included what food to pair with certain beers, what glassware you should use, and lots of info about the craft beers--which are his favorite. This buy was a no brainer for me--he loved it.

This is a massive collection and visual journey though the world of beers. As a beer lover myself I could not resist purchasing this book.This encyclopedia, goes through beers alphabetical and by geographic region, there are sampling notes for the top brews each brewing company makes, as well as nice bright photos of each bottle. inside you will fine walking tours for fantastic pubs around the world, as well as a look at the large breweries themselves and the brew masters who work them.I only wish it could have even more beers, as only the 2 or 3 beers are mentioned for each brewery, though it is already quite a collection.Also on the front cover of the book where the title is, is a huge coaster! i got a kick out of that when it arrived! though i would not set any beer on that one!Get it if you like beer, get it for someone who likes beer, you wont regret it, and it will only expand your appreciation for this delicious brew.

This is a photo book. Good, diverse photos of beers. If you want to read about beer this isn't the book. The book is very high level on all beer topics and far from exhaustive. Quite a few mistakes too. Unless you want to look at photos, your time would be better spent buying beer, trying it, reading the labels, surfing brewery websites, visiting breweries, and reading books that go deeper on specific beers and/or beer topics. For each brewery in the book, you'll find a few beers listed (no rhyme or reason to the beers selected as far as I could tell) including 1-2 sentence descriptions of each beer (most beers have more info on their labels) and there will be a few general sentences that may or may not be representative of the brewery (if you've taken a tour of any of the breweries in the book, you will know orders of magnitude more than what is written for that brewery and will be able to easily imagine more creative, interesting writeups for that brewery).

This is a beautifully designed, comprehensive guide to the world's greatest drink.There are many reviews here that can offer detailed insight into this book, so I won't repeat. I can simply confirm that it's the best beer manual out there. It's a beautiful book done to very high standards, unlike some other beer books out there.This is not a "how to" manual for home brewers, but a lavishly illustrated guide for "beer travelers." The photography is truly exceptional.The text of this book is a real treat, as it serves as both a travel guide and narrative history of the world's most important breweries.

This book is amazing. It features hundreds of beers, categorized by country and brewery. Great descriptions, full color photos of the labels. It is interspersed with other great beer facts, details of the ingredients, how brewing is done, etc.This is a must for anyone who enjoys beers and wants to try as many different ones as they can. There are several pages at the back for your own notes, but I'm going to get a pad of post-it notes and sticky them as I go.Buy it!

I purchased this book for my husband for Christmas, and he absolutely loves it. We are both beer enthusiasts, so I have enjoyed looking at it myself as well. It has great images throughout the book and a wealth of information about so many beers. This will be something we can enjoy for years to come and will help us expand on our list of beers tried:)

It was purchased as a gift… I saw this while I was on a Viking River Cruise in their library section, and thought it a great gift addition for a "beer connoisseur". Hope the gift will be enjoyed and appreciated. :–)

I bought this book for my boyfriend, who is a growing beer fanatic, and he absolutely loves it. I am a huge fan of DK's encyclopedias, and this book lives up to my standards for them. It has enough pictures to keep him (and me, a non-beer drinker) interested, as well as enough information about the beers so that he can find them to buy when he wants. A great reference for beer drinkers looking to expand their "repetoire".

Looks to be another great book telling you about different beers of the world and also the glasses that it is drunk out of!! A great president for any bloke!!
