U-Turn Fasteners Self Tapping Screws - #12-24 x 1-1/4" Hex Washer Head Self-Drilling Tek Screw Zinc Plated Steel for Attaches Sheet Metal Steel or Steel to Metal | (Pack of 250)

I was affixing some eyelets to a 1/4” steel frame I have on my roof deck to use as anchor points for a shade sail and I tried using some basic self-drilling screws I got in one of those packages with 150 screws of various size and lengths. I snapped about 80% of them.So then I got these and they went in like butter. I did end up drilling a pilot hole first though as it’s difficult to keep these dead on and try and drive them directly into the steel. I drilled a 3/16 pilot with a cobalt bit first and then put these in after and it’s working great. I was able to drive these with much less torque than the other cheaper screws and had zero issues with them. I think having the tapping line run up the length of the screw makes a huge difference versus others that just have it at the head of the screw.I haven’t tested the staying power and load strengths, but for my needs I’m sure these will be fine as I’m not putting a ton of load on them. I’m also not sure how well they’ll hold up to the elements, but the galvanized stainless steel should be fine. I’m probably gonna paint over them anyways to add some protection.The only thing is I wish these had the rubber/neoprene washers. Easy enough to get them separately (I just took them off the screws I got in the assorted size pack), but would be nice to have them come with.Glad I found these though as they worked perfectly for my needs when it wasn’t very easy to find similar fasteners at a reasonable price.

I was a bit skeptical that these would penetrate and if so then not snap off trying to repair this sagging shroud under our 5th wheel trailer. I needed to secure the plastic to the steel beam and these worked better than expected. I paired the U-Turn 1 1/4” 1000HR Coated self tapping screw with some #12 1” Neoprene EPDM Bonded Sealing Washers to give it a good bite when tightening. The rubber adds a bit of give to the plastic when tightening so you don’t tear right through it like you would with a normal washer. Without a washer providing the 1” surface area the screw would just tear right through the plastic. It took a bit of force to drill the hole before the screw punched through but it was easily manageable. I used about 10 without a single one snapping off. Highly recommend!!! For the price I’d give it a 6th star if I could!

I buy these for my job to self tap through steal Poles. They work great.

They look like the Simpson screws but are not rhe same qualityCannot put a screw into simple mild steel 1/4 angle iron.

Just as expected

I use these to drill into hollow steel columns and hang electrical conduit and fittings. These work well, only breaking the heads off maybe 5 % of them. Takes about the same time to pre drill with an 1/8 inch bit vs use these self drillers with no starter bit, but it feels better to me. Just don’t slam them home with an impact driver or you’ll definitely break more heads. I’ve used other brands with much higher fail rate or drill heads that just won’t cut. Pleased with these.

Great screws for attaching thick steel components together
