Q: The Main compartment size, can it fit several notebooks 11" x 9" (regular paper size) like a school notebook or legal pad?

I doubt you can fit anything notebook or tablet larger than 9.5" x 8". I have a 1st gen iPad with cover and I have to use a little effort to put it it. Part of the reason is the draw string protective cover which limits the opening space when putting stuff in. With my iPad, there is not much space left to put any bulky stuff to properly snap close the Versipack.

Q: In the pictures, the black version looks like the S type. Is it right side carry like the rest of the colors?

I do not have the black one however, I believe you could get any of them in the right or left carry. I have had my bag for well over a month now and I have carried it on both sides. It's worked well, and the quality is wonderful.
