Perfect first pair of running shoes, probably.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I've never owned running shoes before these, but I love them. I took up running during the Coronavirus lockdown (with a mask, be safe y'all), and they seem like everything that I, as a non-runner, hoped that good running shoes would be:1. They're shockingly light, to the point that for a half-second I was worried I'd been sent an empty box. Apart from the cushioning, it feels like I'm not wearing shoes at all, weight-wise.2. Speaking of cushioning, it is excellent. I like that it doesn't feel spongy or overly soft; I was hoping for protection from jarring impacts, not feeling like I was running on a waterbed, and I can definitely still feel the road/trail through the soles, which is a plus for me personally.3. The lining is maybe my favorite part. the designers/manufacturers did a great job of avoiding any friction on seams and so forth inside the shoe, so I haven't developed any blisters or sore skin spots, which I was concerned about.4. They're also just nice-looking shoes that don't scream LOOK AT ME IM A RUNNER R U? I wish I'd opted for the plaid-patterned ones, but the grey/black ones don't look out of place with normal, casual clothes. All in all, with no frame of reference whatsoever, these seem like fantastic running shoes.

Dad loved these shoes -- said the narrow size was perfect!
I bought these for my elderly father, who has narrow heels. I had noticed that Dad was lacing his shoes up quite tight, and decided to try to find him some narrow sneakers instead. These shoes were absolutely perfect! The narrow width allowed him to better adjust the laces for proper fit and good comfort and stability as he walked. He walked easier and beter wearing properly fitted shoes.PLEASE make a version of these shoes with hook-and-loop straps instead of laces. Dad's hands struggle with laces at all now, and I had to change him over to shoes with hook-and-loop straps. I have found none that come in narrow widths, so Dad is once again wearing shoes that are a little too wide, reducing the stability of his step. A strapped version of these shoes would have been ideal!

Ironman 70.3
I am training for my second triathlon, which is an Ironman 70.3. I wanted to get a shoe that would provide the cushion and support without being to heavy for speed work. This shoe has a great balance at most everything. This shoes does not necessarily specialize in any area, but maximizes its strengths in versatility. It will give you the light and responsive needs for speed work, but will also provide all the support and cushion you need for long runs. Can other shoes beat the Ghost in these individual categories? Yes, but no other shoe can provide the ability to excel in any type of run you can throw at it. I would recommend this shoe over its heavier counterpart the Glycerin 17, as the added weight is not worth extra cushion for most runners. This shoe is great for whatever level of running you want to throw at it. Unless you are aiming for extreme ends of the spectrum in distance (ultramarathon) or speed (short sprints) this is the shoe for you.Possible improvements:-Style. This is not a big complaint, but I added some different color laces to add to the style of these shoes. Overall great design.

UPDATED REVIEW: Still a great shoe, but beware sizing inconsistent..
Best running shoes ever for a neutral runner looking for good support and cushioning. I have had for a year and run 3-4 miles every other day. Love these shoes and have held up incredibly well.UPDATE: ordered a second pair and the fit is not consistent at all. My first fit perfect but the second pair same size (10.5M) are too short. Unfortunately I thought it was just because they needed to break in and stretch but not the case. Now I’ve run several times and can’t return them. Very disappointed in Brooks lack of quality control on the sizing. Still a great show design and overall quality. Will be trying my luck with the Ghost 13 and donating these. If you get these and they are a little snug in the toe, don’t make my mistake of thinking they will stretch after break in. I’d return them and get a 1/2 size up.

Continued Reliability
I waited a couple months after purchase to make sure I couldform an opinion. I've been buying ghosts for years (since i started exercising regularly about a decade ago with my first pair being i think the model 5 or 6). I go through a pair about every 3 years as i do a mix of treadmill, outdoor and indoor lifting workouts 5 days a week in these. I'm always concerned the new models will change fit or performance, but these continue to provide solid wear, comfort and fit for me. I've tried other brands that just don't work for my flat feet. These continue to eliminate the knee and back issues i've experienced using other brands. They are comfortable and work for varied workouts. I can see how some are complaining about them not venting as well as previous models, but it's winter and not as much of an issue right now, but i do notice my feet are warmer and socks definitely wetter after a workout. We'll see if they last as long as previous models, but so far i see no indication they won't.

Better than advertised!
I'm a "not very good", 64 year old runner. I needed new running shoes so I did some research. I selected the Brooks Ghost 12's as I need a good cushion, good fit and a good weight. I have been having pain in my hips, knees, ankles and have had trouble with my shins. Also, despite my age, I still feel I can run faster than I have since I started 5 years ago. With these shoes, I no longer have the leg pain. I am running much better as my stride has improved due to no pain . My legs don't feel as tired during or between runs. I have honestly been struggling to run faster. Now that fall is approaching, the weather is cooling with lower humidity. I'm sure that is the main reason why I am running faster. But these shoes are also helping a lot. Since I got them, I have run faster times in the 1, 2, 4 and 5 mile road runs than in the past 4 years. My next goal is in the 5K. I haven't beat that time yet but plan to soon. These shoes are just what the Dr. ordered.
