My son loves it. Perfect for learning about navigating friendships. Review: Pictures are worth a thousand words - I have a 5-year-old in a Montessori school, and an almost-three-year-old who'll start Montessori soon. They both love this book. A great thing I've learned from Montessori teaching is to give children books with REAL pictures of REAL people, animals or things from REAL life. They are naturally attracted to the photos. In this book, each page has a large photograph of the 2 children you see on the cover--playing together, not playing together, upset with each other, etc. The pictures are worth a thousand words, and both my kids understand exactly what's happening and can relate to the feelings of the children in the book. Leave it to Mr. Rogers to teach without talking down to children. There's no plot or story line. It's a very simple book describing how friends play together, and how friends sometimes upset each other, and what they can do when a friend has made them sad or mad. (Also look up Fred Rogers singing "what do you do with the mad that you feel" on youtube). This is a good book to teach a basic lesson about friendship.

Great for learning about friends.
My daughter is shy and this book helped her understand how to make friends as a toddler. Love the real photographs and great quality book and helpful information for young kids.

A book that engages a young child
My almost 4 year old daughter was instantly drawn into this book when we began reading it for the first time. It deals with a topic that she can relate to. As with all young children who are around other kids, she sometimes "fights" with her friends. It is written in a way that the child is fully engaged in the topic of friends and the pictures that accompany each point help the child understand the emotions of others. It reads like a discussion and my daughter often answers the questions Fred Rogers poses about friends as we read. The pictures are dated, but to me, that makes this book unique. The eyes of a young child do not pick up on the dated images...they only see young children like themselves. My little girl loves this book, I love reading it to her, and it's a book she asks me to read over and over. Wonderful book for children.

Gentle Fred Rogers. Our hero
My brother-in-law's daughter-in-law wrote a nice note when I gave this book to her children (1st grade and Pre-school) as a "Welcome back to school gift." Very Fred Rogers-y.

So great for toddlers and young children!
I got this book for my two year old as it was highly recommended by a Family Education instructor who teaches a toddler-parent class we attend. I grew up watching Mr. Rogers and was happy to continue the tradition. My son really likes this book. He really studies the pictures of children interacting and likes to talk about about them. He also spends a lot of time looking at this book on his own, which means he really likes it. From a parental perspective, I find this book very helpful in initiating conversations with my toddler about how to interact appropriately with others, how to be a good friend, and appropriate play. Overall, it is a fantastic book for children who are looking for guidance on how to be a friend.

So good!!!
I love this book! As I read it I can imagine Mister. Rogers' voice telling the story. This book is really great for kids (probably ages 3-7 are best suited for it). It's about how to make friends and how to deal with the challenges that come with it - sharing, taking turns, when your friends play with other friends, etc. It is written in simple, basic, easy-to-understand language that children can readily understand as it depicts the sophisticated concepts. Your children will definitely appreciate reading about the intricacies of friendship from a point of view that discusses them so meaningfully without dumbing them down. Your kids will really enjoy this book!

Beautifully written, with excellent photos. Developmentally appropriate for children in nursery school to grade one to around grade two (many adults could benefit from reading it as well.) Mr. Rogers touched the lives of so many people in a positive life-changing way. He is remembered and missed by people from all over the world.
