Very acceptable, for the price.
This device seems to work well enough for the price. For non-important low-demand displays, I think this unit will be my go-to display from now on. I'm using a Parallax Propeller processor, and writing the code in C. I've connected the device with single wire asynchronous serial communication, and I'm still feeling out the best method to display my data. The display refreshes well enough, but doesn't seem to respond well to more than one character at a time (throw a few milliseconds between commands). The manual is crap, My advice: look up documentation of ST7066U, the controller for the LCD. If you can't figure it out, I'll help you out on getting started... you have to send multiple commands for certain functions. 0xFE is to enabled the next command to be a function of the LCD. Some commands take several pieces of information, for example. 0xFE, 0x53, 0x08. These three combined byte transmissions would set the screen brightness to the maximum (8). To get you started, you should know sending 0xFE followed by 0x41 will turn the display on.

Overall a nice LCD board
As a previous review said, the documentation is a little sparse. The documentation indicates that the I2C default address is 50 (32 hex) but the one I received was set to 40 (28 Hex), so if it doesn't seem to work run an I2C scanner to find the actual address.Overall a nice LCD board, will use it again.
