Good rack. very good price. recommend purchase.
After researching a rack over a couple of weeks I decided on this rack. With a full house we ha e 6 adult bikes to transport. My wife's has a quick release and fits in the rear hatch of our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, so a 5 bike rack suits us fine. I've had the rack for about a month and have used it at least once every weekend before writing the review. As stated, I've loaded 5 adult bikes on the rack and braved the Houston freeways with no issues. I've also lowered the rack fully loaded to get into the hatch and had no issues raising it back and replacing the pin. I had help lifting it back to position with 5 bikes, but if there are 5 bikes on it there SHOULD be plenty of helping hands around. I did drop my wife off to shop and when I picked her up lowered and raised the rack by myself With Zero Difficulty. I haven't used the supplied No Wobble bolt as I had purchased a locking pin before using the rack. There is some sway without the No Wobble bolt, but that is no fault of the rack itself. I cannot say if the No Wobble bolt functions well because I have not used it. I do t want to go off into to woods and come back to a missing rack. I have purchased a locking Silent Hitch Pin and that should tighten up the rack to the hitch reciver and remedy the situation. It works fine with the locking pin, but for my own piece of mind I want to minimize the sway on long trips. It is Easy to put on and off. The Bikes fit nice and secure with the straps. I do use a Ratchet strap to further secure the bikes, again for my piece of mind. I am happy with this rack. It does the job it says it will do. I would recommend this rack.

Good product that appears to have addressed previous concerns.
Excellent product and well built. I mounted mine on a 2005 Honda Pilot and found the tilting mechanism to be both easy to operate and clears the opening of the hatch just fine. See pictures. I have a few observations to make, having read the reviews prior to purchase: 1. The rack does NOT fit toddler bikes. Our family currently has two adult bikes, one bike for an eight year old, and two bikes for twin five year olds. When mounting the bikes on this new rack, I discovered that the smaller twins' bikes would not fit at all. The good news is that they still fit inside the car and eventually will need bigger bikes that will mount on this carrier. 2. There is NO problem with black powder or residue rubbing off on your hands from the straps. I saw this complaint in several reviews, and perhaps this was an old design issue, but with the product I just received I had no such problems. 3. The rack has a structured loop for attaching a cable lock or other security solution. In a few of the reviews, customers seemed to have wisely made the suggestion that there should be some way of "locking" the bikes to the mounting rack, and I was pleased to see that mine arrived with the ability to do this. Conversely, the rack is only secured to the hitch only with a nut and bolt and my hitch lock does not fit the pre-drilled holes in the rack. So, I either need to buy another hitch lock or drill-out a larger diameter hole. In the end, with the bikes secured with cable locks and a U-lock, chances are the nut-and-bolt solution will be enough of a deterrent. So, I will likely just rely on the nut-and-bolt that came with the product, since the bolt was machined with a "shoulder" to best secure the mounting post to the hitch. Mounting the bikes does take some trial-and-error. Finding the right configuration is a bit of a puzzle, but not too daunting with some planning. All in all, this is a good product, functions as intended, and appears to be well-built. I will update if there are any issues, once I travel with this new mounting system.

Holy Wow!!
I've never owned a rack before and have just been waiting to buy one. After reading all of the reviews for this rack and several other racks, I must say that I am so happy with the choice that I made!!! The rack was incredibly easy to put together, easy to get into the hitch, and easy to operate. I read several reviews that mentioned not being able to get the pin back in once they had lowered the rack for trunk access, I didn't have that same problem. For informational purposes, these are the couple of issues that I do have (which are not a fault of the rack, but situational): I drive a 2005 Jeep Liberty. In order to use the 5th spot for a bike, I will have to remove my spare tire. I will also have to remove the spare tire if I want to open the back door of the car. That is a mild set back, but something that I can definitely live with. An if I'm not mistaken, I believe that there is an extension that can be purchased if this becomes a problem. Also, I purchased a receiver lock to use with the rack. The rack itself comes with a "no wobble" bolt to use in the hitch, and I'll tell ya, the rack doesn't budge when the bolt is tightened. When I put the receiver lock in place, however, there was all kinds of room for the rack to wobble back and forth. In all reality, I can't imagine that any one person will just so happen to have the right size wrenches (you definitely need two in order to get the bolts on and off) while passing by that will make it possible to steal the rack. So really, no worries. All in all, I'm extremely happy with the purchase. The price was more than right, the rack itself is very sturdy, and I'm just dying to get it out on the road.

Full review: Practical Experience and advise
Just installed a Curt custom trailer hitch on a 2016 Kia Sorento. We had a trip planned to Moab UT. That is a Mtn bikers mecca and with 3 new mtbs for our kids we needed a way to bring 5 bikes to make the most of some great trails in the State Parks. So we were depending on this to have some Spring Break fun on 2 wheels. Onto the Review. Overall: This is sturdy rack and a good value with some convenient design features. There are some design drawbacks that limit it's viability for some vehicles. Being able to carry five bikes on a trailer hitch rack is a big deal when you need as much cargo space inside your vehicle as possible and you don't have roof rack options at your disposal. This seemed like a good option and it carried 4 full-size adult bikes and one 24 inch girls youth mountain bike . 2 were Trek hard tail Mtn Bikes 2 were Diamond Back Trail bikes. So it worked as advertised and didn't fold under the pressure. The ability to lean it back away from the bumper was a good convenience feature that came in very handy a couple time when we needed to open the back hatch of the SUV! CONS: Okay there are some definite drawbacks to this design. · Horizontal length is long enough but barely! So the bikes are situated very close to your vehicle if your hitch receiver is not sticking out far behind your bumper. To fit 5 bikes on, One of the bikes must mount behind the post next to your vehicle/bumper. So this requires some careful planning of putting your bike on so you don't scratch the back of your car. This hitchrack isn't long enough to make it stick out enough to EASILY fit all 5 bikes on it. And there's no way you're opening the back hatch of your van or SUV. Without using the tilt down feature of the rack. On a pickup truck there is obviously no problem unless you have some desire to open the door on the bed of your truck. If your hitch sticks out really far behind your vehicle bumper then you should also be in pretty good shape and have some extra space to fit the bike on the front of the rack and the back of your vehicle. · Low clearance. For my SUV it was sitting pretty low to the ground and when the bikes were mounted they were also relatively low. The rack could have a taller post to raise the bikes for low sitting SUVs or vans. If you have a pickup truck or a high clearance vehicle where your hitch is more than 12 inches off the ground then you will have a lot more clearance for bikes. There was one moment when I heard the bottom of this rack scrape the ground going into a parking lot with a big dip. But we were moving a little too quickly. Other than that ground clearance was not a problem. I did worry sometimes so I was careful over bumps. · Hitch fit: If it easily into the two inch receiver. But when we hit any terrain that caused us to yaw you could hear the hitch rattling in the receiver quite a bit. You could try to do something like wrap some thin padding around but it's not a completely snug fit. The hole for the Bolt is smaller than standard therefore I could not use my lock to lock this rack into the receiver. The bolt that it comes with works but seems a little strange the way it is made. You will see. Basically the cons for this have to do with fit and clearance concerns found in the design. PROS: Nice features. Great value. Sturdy rack. Secure mounts. The two features that stand out are the pins which are securely wired/attached at key hinge points. 1 allows you to tip the hitch down away from your vehicle. That mostly comes in handy when you need to get inside the back of a van or SUV. It doesn't really help you load or unload bikes at all in my opinion. And there's a pin that allows you to lower the horizontal bars that your bikes are mounted on. This just comes in handy when you don't have the ability to take the rack out while you're on a trip yet you are not carrying bikes at all. It sits on your rig in a more tidy compact way when not in use. The rack is not Ultra long so it doesn't add too much length to your rig or but it can be difficult to put 5 bikes on this rack. All of your bikes must be really closely placed together because of the spacers between each set of rack mounts. When we first left I loosened the handlebars on the four adult bikes sitting on the back. Allowing the handlebars to turn parallel to the frame and wheels was helpful required more careful mounting to avoid cable damage on brakes and shifters. This was a moderate inconvenience because ultimately the bikes were still tough to fit in place so I don't think it was worth it. Plus it required having to deal with retightening and adjusting the handlebars after we arrived at our destination. You couldn't just get there and go fir a ride immediately or even walk the bikes around easily. Returning home I mounted the bikes without loosening the handlebars and all 5 bikes fit on the rack by alternating their orientation with handlebars facing opposite directions on each adjacent bicycle . This was a little more difficult to fit them on. You have to adjust pedals and handlebars to make sure the bikes sit well and strap down properly into the velcro straps and mounting brackets. I have had a trunk rack for years that has the same kind of set up so even though it can be difficult to figure out it's easy once you do. You just have to keep adjusting bike parts around each other. The reason I consider this a positive thing is because once you have the bikes all on and seated properly these velcro straps hold them very securely and I never felt like the bikes were going to fall off or come loose from the rack. It's also really easy to just loosen the velcro straps and pull them off when you're ready to go for a ride. So it takes time getting bikes on but getting them off is super convenient and easy. I do suggest having two people put the bikes on especially when you mount the very front bike that sits closest to your vehicle. It's very difficult for one person to mount that 1. I like the fact that your 5 bikes don't stick out more than 4 - 5 feet away from the vehicle. It seems like the compact design improves safety and streamlines your vehicle aerodynamics so the bikes don't get too much wind shear and the potential problems that could cause. It's very sturdy and I think steel Construction. I was a little worried about all the weight 5 bikes would put on this rack but it held like a Champion and seemed to have no major distress. I even tilted it down several times with all 5 bikes mounted on and it held just fine so that is a great feature allowing access to cargo. Summary: The Allen Sports 5 bike Deluxe hitch mount bike rack is a great value for a driver who wants to bring 5 bikes on the road for some group fun on two wheels. The rack is sturdy and big enough to get the job done while still being small enough to be convenient. It's not for professional cycling crews who have big expensive bikes that are competition ready. This is a great family vacation or weekend warrior rack for those who don't have pickup trucks or roof mounts that allow them to carry a lot of bikes easily. For the price it's definitely worth it just be ready to put in a little work to get the bikes on board. Getting them off and other uses are very well oriented in this system. It helps if your hitch is a little higher off the ground but if you're a careful driver you should have no problems. Smaller youth bikes will fit on this rack without a problem. This is a very good option for those who need to get their family bikes on the road and want to keep a tight budget.

Good Value/ Great 5-bike rack
I did some significant research and selected this to transport five bikes; two adult and three kids bikes. I recommend this pretty confidently as a great value for the money. Positives: SIMPLE: This was easy to assemble and attach (you do need a socket wrench), and easy to load with five bikes. It took me only 25 minutes to un-box, assemble, attach and mount all five bikes the first time! OPTIONS: The mounting brackets rotate on the bars so that you can mount the bikes and attach at any angle (see pictures and video). Also, you have the option to lower the bar (see picture with it tilted and our van gate open) by removing the retaining pin. This is a great feature but only practical when the bikes are not attached to the rack. DO NOT ATTEMPT when fully loaded! QUALITY: This is made of decent quality materials (Steel, aluminum, thick plastic, and strong straps). The paint isn’t powder coated, which was the only disappointment and will lead to scrapes and eventually corrosion if you use this all the time. Negatives: - Even after tightening all bolts with socket wrenches, the rack rattles and sways. I watched the bikes in the rear view and saw them obviously moving the entire trip. I don’t think it’s a serious issue, but I wish the tubes fit tighter together. I wrapped painters tape around the inside pipes To fill the voids and so far it’s heavily reduced the movement. I recommend this as a good value for families that want to transport bikes casually for vacations or weekend trips.

Best bike rack, hands down!
This it the bike rack to own. I borrowed one for a recent trip to Canada and my buddy was amazed at how easily we could get get 2 adult and 2 youth bikes on and off the rack; this coming from a guy who warned me my blood pressure would double trying to get bikes on and off ANY bike rack. We got it down to 2-3 minutes to load up or unload the rack. The adjustable nature of the arm made it very easy for us to access the back of our Honda Pilot and the space for the 5th bike (closest to the rear gate of the car) created sufficient room for us to open the glass panel to access camping gear in the back of our pilot. I have not used the permanent tow pin yet, as I bought a locking pin from a 3rd party vendor. Although there is some wiggle to the rack without any bikes on it, with the weight of the bikes, the rack moved very little. I even forgot that there was a bike rack there several times (due to its unobtrusiveness) and had to be careful not to back up into objects behind me. The unit worked so well, I bought my very own from Amazon. It arrived in great shape, save for one missing "non-critical" part, replaced immediately by working directly with the Allen company. They were incredibly responsive and got the part to me in only a few days. I must say, their customer service cannot be beat. Which is why I feel so compelled to write this review. I researched bike racks to the extreme and hadn't even considered an Allen until my colleague let me borrow hers. I am now a lifelong customer and will recommend this rack, in particular, to friends and family, alike. No need to spend big bucks. This one gets the job done and does it well.

Excellent device - works exactly as intended
There are several reviews that detail this device's function, and overall, the device works exactly as intended. I bought the 'Premier' version. It is solidly built, fits well into a standard 2 inch trailer hitch and carries all five of our bikes well. I do have to put some swim noodle type foam between the bikes to keep them from banging into each other - but there is no way to avoid this issue when you cram 5 bikes together on a hitch. The function of tilting the hitch away from the vehicle to raise the trunk works very well. The device is solid and heavy, so you may need some assistance getting it into your trailer hitch if you have a bad back. I did not have much difficulty doing it myself, and I'm not exactly a muscle bound individual. This device does not come with a lock, but you can certainly chain it to your hitch without difficulty. Only other thing with a hitch with 5 bikes is that it extends a good bit behind your vehicle, so if you have to make any steep inclines, you will have to be careful at the transition point to the incline, as the bikes may drag on the ground.

Awesome Rack and EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE
I bought this rack to hold all my family's 5 bikes. I typically mount this rack to dual hitch adapter and most times when I use it, I'm also pulling our travel trailer. SO the rack is positioned between my SUV and the trailer. It does have the very slightest wobble, but it's on there so securely this doesn't bother me in the least. It's VERY minor; It's definitely not going anywhere! The straps work great on all our bikes. I usually position the smaller bikes so that one strap is on the vertical seat post bar while the other strap goes around the lower frame of the bike. Even on the lower frame part, the straps are plenty long enough and hold the bikes VERY securely. Now, I've never owned a premium bike rack from those expensive companies. But given my experience with this rack, I dont see why I'd ever own one of those. This rack is GREAT! I'd highly recommend it. Recently, I was backing up a hill with the travel trailer attached and one of the bikes caught a part of the camper, bending the rim of the bike and breaking 2 hold-downs on the rack. This was completely my fault, not a fault of the rack. I ordered 2 replacement hold-downs from Allen Sports website and they IMMEDIATELY emailed me that they were returning my money (which they promptly did) and sending me the 2 hold-downs for FREE! Since my rack was so new, they wanted to do this for me! What AMAZING customer service! If you're on the fence about buying this rack, I'd suggest you not hesitate. A Great bike rack, from a great company! The Premium version does have some really nice features. If I were to replace this rack, it would be with the premium model, but the deluxe rack is a great rack also.
