Better than expected
I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about the gains I might get from a programmer. I've seen reviews where people really talk it up, and read other reviews and opinions that it is kind of a waste of money, and that you aren't likely to see much improvement in performance. A guy I work with said that every machine he's ever seen have one of these added, really came alive. After weighing all the info and opinions, I went ahead and got one to try, since I've done most everything I can do without getting into the motor. I figured even a small improvement would be enough to make it worthwhile.I installed it the day it arrived. It was pretty easy to install, with fairly detailed instructions and even a few pictures. I'd guess I spent maybe 35 or 40 minutes on it. I didn't have time to take my machine to any of my usual riding spots since it had already gotten dark outside, so I went out on a deserted road near my house to give it a go. I was pretty blown away at how quick I went through the gears, with even 5th gear pulling to near the rev limiter fairly quickly. Very impressive, but I wondered if it seemed so fast because I was on pavement. The next day, I went to one of my regular trail riding areas and did another test run. The trails are mostly hard-pack, with some rocky and steep sections. It's also full of drainage berms and many twists and turns to make it fun. I can say that what seemed to be a decent power increase on the road was undeniable in the dirt. I could rip through the gears much faster than before, and especially felt that the bottom and midrange had the most improvement. Top end power feels better, too, but I think it made a smaller improvement there. Nevertheless, I can't think of too many things that make that much difference for the money spent. Well worth it! Really looking forward to getting back to the Saint Anthony dunes for a good test up Chokecherry hill climb. Last time there, I was pulling 3rd all the way, but losing enough speed near the top to almost need a downshift to 2nd. Hoping that I can hold a strong, high-revving 3rd all the way now. The killer mid-range and slightly better top end I have now should help keep it from dropping off like before. I'll add my experience from the dunes after I've had a chance to try it out.Not sure what it can do for other bikes, but my Kawasaki KFX450R is a different machine now. Great product!
