The nice person(Brian) at Ram said that there was a lifetime warranty on their products and they sent me a replacement unit. I paid $2.00 shipping which was fine by me. Given that I have purchased a Galaxy Note 4 phone and a zerolemon extended battery/case (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q7C6FTA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)this holder works better than the Grip IV I ended up buying for my Note 2. Very satisfied with this product and company.12/03/2014 - Update.After heavy usage of this mount and playing with the x-wing arms (this thing reminds me of an X-wing fighter....). I have to report that it broke, a little bit. While I was very careful in my modifications of the units, two of the four screw holes separated from the back plate of the unit over time. That was a bummer. I now have a tie wrap twisted around the base of the ball and then pulled across the front to hold the two pieces more securely together. It still works, just does not have that new mount scent anymore. I'd still buy one, just not modify it and make sure I got the right one for my phone.The reason I updated is that the springs on this are strong and if the two parts are not fitting snugly, the arms will come out of place and could cause more damage.-----Please note, I own other Ram Mount products so I already have the handlebar mount and extension for my motorcycle for this unit. If you do NOT own any RAM MOUNT products, you will need to order those materials to use this on your Motorcycle (or car for that matter). On to the review:This video is JUST A SHAKE test showing how well this mount holds my Galaxy Note II/Defender Case phone after I reversed the arms of the Ram Mount.I purchased this Ram Mount to be able to use my Galaxy Note II phone, with my Otterbox Defender Case in GPS mode while riding my motorcycle. The Ram Mount as it is JUST fits my Galaxy Note II/Defender Case combo. The holding posts however only held the corner of the phone(See the pictures I posted on that!!). This is fine for car riding but not for motorcycle riding in my opinion. I took the Ram Mount apart and reversed the arms because there are gripping prongs on the back of the arms that are closer together than the ones on the front of the arms.This involves taking out four screws, removing the springs, reversing the arms, placing the spring back on and putting the cap back on. I did post a picture of the mount with the cover off. This gave a MUCH BETTER fit for my phone on this unit. I shook this pretty good so I am confident that next weekend when I go to the North Carolina Mountains to ride, my phone will stay secure on my Ram Mount. This was very easy to do.I gave this unit five stars because of the flexibility it had where I could reverse the arms and use it for what I wanted to and not have to send it back. Now I can use this for my phone and if I ever buy a small tablet (which given the Galaxy Note II 5.5inch screen, why would I??), I could mount it as well.Thanks for watching my FIRST Video on AMAZON.04/30/2013 update.Used this mount on my Goldwing for a trip into the mountains. Worked quite well. A small bit of vibration shaking but not bad by any means and the phone did not move a millimeter in the grips. Very satisfied with this purchase.Remember though, there is a mount exactly for the Galaxy Note II. You can find it at RAM Mounts Universal X Grip Cradle on Amazon. I think the reason I did not purchase this one is because I was looking for Amazon Prime sellers and the seller I just linked to was not a Prime seller so it was excluded from my filters.10/31/2013My last update for this product. I recently did a 1700 mile motorcycle trip covering Florida and Georgia. No issues with the mount other than there is no locking mechanism so when I would hit a bump, sometimes the phone would tip to the left/right. It was NEVER in danger of falling off but the mount has a bit of play in it. A locking mechanism would be good so the mount would not rotate. It has about 1.5 inches of play in it.BEST MOUNT purchase I've made to date.

Great product. I took the four tangs off the back to get it closer to my yoke and that was a mistake. Still works but moves. Not the product fault.

I bought this and the twist-lock suction cup from GPS City through Amazon. I have several RAM Mounts and have used them in airplane, motorcycle, bicycle and car, so I already had the long arm and the diamond 1" ball required to connect between the cradle and suction cup. Ram-Mounts have always work very well for me and are solidly built.The X-Grip II works extremely well and hold my 8.2" Motoroly Xyboard tablet firmly without scuffing the edges or covering any buttons. Although it doesn't look as good as a fitted cradle, it's actually much handier to insert and remove - and it'll work on more than one brand of device. I am particularly impressed with the twist lock suction cup - wow, this thing will lift out your windshield if you had it on the outside! It also works very well as a desk mount like they show in the video.When I got it, one of the arm sets did not have spring tension like the other. I called NPI (makers of Ram-Mount products) directly to ask if that was by design or if I had a defective unit. I was told that it was defective and was asked for an order ID number. I told him that I bought it from GPS City through Amazon and asked if I'd need to contact them. He said "No, that's really our problem - I'll take care of you". He got my address and shipped me a new one immediately. Great service GPS City and NPI!

+ The build quality is great+ Holds whatever tablet I am using (love the universal aspect)- with heavier tablets they have a little side to side play. This is a negative when flying and using this while attached to the yoke. When I turn the tablet can tilt a bit. Not a huge deal, but frustrating. If I use a suction cup and not attach it to the yoke, it is strong enough to hold in place.- the prongs on the back that are meant for grabbing onto and squeezing to open the mount I could do without. I know they make it easier to open up, but it makes it harder to use the mount more flush to objects behind it, such as trying to have it as close as possible to the yoke of an airplane.Even with the negatives, I would recommend this above any other tablet mount.

I use this while flying it's a great device to hold your tablet securely to the yoke.

I purchased this mount to replace the smaller smartphone focused model. I have been rocking a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series phone for multiple years, Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 5, and the standard phone size mount just wasn't big enough. So, I was just have to let the phone rest in on the bottom legs, which resulted in my phone yeeting itself across my truck only multiple occasions. I'm excited to say the RAM Mounts X-Grip Universal Holder for 7"-8" Tablets works perfectly with my Z Fold 5, and will likely work great for any of the Z Fold 4, 5, 6, phones. I appreciate the addition of the gray finger grips on the back to help ease the opening of the mount.

It securely holds my iPad mini 6th generation in flight; the only minor issue is you cannot attach an Apple pencil to the iPad when using this mount. But otherwise, it's a rock-solid mount.
