So, I didn't follow the washing instructions because I'm just not going to hand wash a pair of leggings for my 5 year old. Unfortunately, they did come out of the washing machine significantly faded. In hindsight I should have followed directions. But, they're pants for kids, she wore them for her party, and now it's not a huge deal if they're a little faded (we got the emerald green). They're still cute on her. As for size, we ended up with the Small but started with larger sizes based on the chart. The small fit as I'd expect a small to fit an average sized 5 year old (43 pounds, 43 inches). They have lots of stretch and the length was good. Overall, I'm satisfied with the pants and my daughter loved them.

Cute pants. They're not made to last long. There is a slight loss of color after second wear. I recommend hand washing and hang to dry. Runs a little small.( If your child wears a size 8 buy a size 10).

Slow delivery but granddaughters loved it so buying more! Hope this one comes faster!!!
