Budget results from a budget heart rate monitor??
I am a fitness professional that has personally been using a Polar rs300x for the passed two years to help track my training sessions. I decided to start looking for another heart rate monitor for my clients to use and did not want to spend a lot of money. The Pyle PHRM38GR had all the features that I was looking for; user settings, average and maximum heart rates as well as calories burned. For the price I thought it was a steal if it works. When the package arrived and I opened it I thought to myself the build quality looks kind of poor. The watch is somewhat over sized and cheaply crafted, so I started getting concerned with my purchase. When I put on the strap the watch immediately picked up a signal. Second thought was a little more positive than the first. As I sat there the display read a normal heart rate, I even compared it to the Polar at the same time, Then I sat there for and hour to see how many calories that I would burn. The polar displayed a number, but the Pyle did not. Then I got up and started walking around and it started registering some calories. I wasn't really sure what was going on but I started to get concerned again. Then the real test came when I wore the HRM during my workout. The Pyle displayed a maximum and average heart rate similar to the workout with the polar. Both HRMs also displayed similar calories burned. I tested the Pyle head to head to more times and each time it nearly matched the Polar. The Pyle appears to start counting calories once you reach an arbitrary point, I'm guessing 50% of your HR max, since anything lower than that isn't really exercise, the Pyle does come out as a steal for cheap and accurate heart rate monitor to use on clients. The results from client sessions have all been what I would expect to see, so again, it functions properly despite having a rather poor and cheap appearance. If you have a couple more dollars to spend I recommend the Pyle PHRM32, I purchased this after using the PHRM38GR and it has a much better build quality as well as all the same features plus more. If your budget is $25 or less this HRM is exactly what you are looking for then.

I suppose it works fine
I suppose it works fine, A family member purchased this on my account and I pleaded with her to please again with my permission something I never do to write a review the fact she never complained about it the fact she uses it every day tells me that it works in excellent condition and it meets all the expectations with that said I would recommend it based on the fact she’s never said anything negative and like I said she uses it every day hopefully this is enough to help you decide whether or not you want to buy want too.

Useless for calorie counting.
I got this product for the sole purpose of counting my calories during a workout so I could apply that number to my daily total of calories consumed on a Excel spreadsheet. This is crucial for keeping tabs of how many calories I consume per day and how many I burn off while exercising, this is the best way for me to lose weight. However the Pyle's calorie counting function is worthless.First off this device only measures in Kcal, kilo-calories, which = 1,000 calories per 1 Kcal. This kind of resolution for calories is completely worthless to somebody like me who needs a higher resolution (accurate) count of calories, ie 478 calories burned vs 0 Kcal.Secondly the calorie counting is horribly off. Just by walking around my house for a few minuets it claimed I had burned over 4,000 calories. So even if you don't care about the poor resolution, it is inaccurate even in Kcal!Thirdly the Pyle only asks for your age and weight, and anybody who knows anything about burning calories knows that gender is EXTREMELY important. The difference of calories burning between a man and a women could mean the difference of several hundred calories in a single session. How this calculates calories must be some kind of average, which would be incorrect for either a man or a women. Also it does not ask for height either, which is also important in accurately determining calories burned in an individual.Fourthly the only way to check the calories burned during a session is to stop the timer, hit set, look at the calories burned, then you have to restart the timer. So real-time calorie watching is not possible and would interfere with accurate calorie readings if you periodically stop and start the timer just to check the calories burned during an active exercise.Other than that it seemed to work correctly. I didn't even need to wet the sensors, it accurately read my heart-rate right away. The strap is a bit uncomfortable, but I am a fairly big person. Instructions were clear enough, but could use some serious work as there seems to be many Chinese to English translation problems.Another thing to note is that the date on the watch is in some kind of European/Chinese format (2012-07-16), and there doesn't appear to be any way to change it to the American date format (7-16-2012).I am very disappointed, as a HRM alone it may suite the needs of many people, but if you want it for accurate, decent resolution, calorie counting, look elsewhere.

Very nice for the price
I decided to purchase this heart rate monitor because I wanted to track my calorie burn during my workouts, I didn't trust the machines so I wanted an accurate reading. It came at record speed, right before x-mas so that was nice. I tried it out right away and it took what I felt to be an accurate reading. The instructions were not very clear, hence the 4 out of 5 stars. I had to search the web in order to understand how to read the numbers. It was fairly easy to set up. I was worried about it not working after a short period of time. some reviewers claimed that theirs worked about three times and then broke. Mine appeared to do the same until I stumbled on another website that had some tips for such issues. One review said that after theirs stopped working they used spit instead of water to moisten the sensors on the chest piece. I thought it was gross but when mine started to have a weird reading, I decided I had nothing to lose. It worked, although it is a bit awkward to be standing in the gym and having to use your own spit to check your heart rate, buy hey, I've seen much worse. The things we do in the name of fitness right?
