Good moisture meter but you need to know what can do and cannot do
Packaging recommended to insert the meter 3-5 inches in soil, so I marked the 4 inch point of the rod. This meter is good for those who want to water their plants more accurately (not precisely). In order to do this, you need to know how much water each type of plant needs. Try to water your plants evenly and then wait a while before inserting the meter. Test several spots to get an idea of how moist the soil is. One of my pots has sandy soil and the meter didn't seem to work well with it.Notes:* Don't immerse in water* Clean after each use* Note how much to water each type of plant* After watering your plant, wait @15 minutes before testing.* Test 2-4 spots to get an idea of how much moisture is present.* Wipe dry after testing each spot* Doesn't work too well in sandy soil

Exactly what I needed
This may sound dumb, but I really wanted to be able to test the temperature of my soil to see if I could start planting my strawberry and asparagus bare roots (had to be at least 50 degrees), and some of my indoor-seeded vegetable seedlings (some at 60 degrees).I live in Idaho, and although we haven't had snow in several weeks, the daily air temperature has been fluctuating - one day high of 58, the next day 40. Lows have been hovering just above or just below freezing. I really wanted to start planting, but didn't really think the soil was warm enough yet. I already have 3 candy and fat thermometers, but they certainly don't go down that low. I have an oven thermometer - ditto. I have 2 rectal thermometers left over from when my 40-yo son was a baby, and 3 electronic fever thermometers. None of those go down that low. So, I ordered this one.It was absolutely what I needed. It came with the battery installed, with a little plastic tag that you pull out to activate the battery. As soon as I received it, I activated the battery and went outside to test the soil temp. Lo and behold, my backyard soil was 58 degrees! It faces the south. My northern garden was cooler - about 48 degrees, but I deemed it close enough to plant my strawberries and asparagus. I'm so happy! I won't need this again until next year, but I plan on using it for many years to come. No more guesswork.

Know when to water
Before we got the moisture meter any plant brought into our house was like legislation moving from the lower house to "Dead on Arrival " McConnels Senate. Now, with our moisture meter we are no longer drowning or dehydrating our plants. We have seven plants all alive and doing well.

Perfect for Moisture Sensitive Plants
I love that this meter is so easy to use, and helps me not to over water my plants which prefer dryer soil. No battery is required- a real plus. Take it out of the box and it is ready to use! I wish I had bought this much sooner. My plants look great!

Gardening made better
This comes really handy for checking the soil especially in the summer time when you don’t want to kill your crops. Barely used this time but can’t wait for this spring!

Check my deep potted plants with long sensor.
I really like this moisture sensor mostly because it is so long. I bring as many of my potted plants indoors before first frost and have to continually check for moisture in my heated home. Some of my pots are quite deep so this long sensor is helpful.

Works great
Works good but be sure to test in different areas of your indoor plants.

Seems working alright
Seems working. On the other hand this just gives a very general idea how your soil is doing with water. Right now I use for indoor. Next year I will also use it for exterior.
