Absolutely no Ben Affleck.
This Absolute edition collects Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and Superman/Batman: Supergirl. In Public Enemies Lex Luthor is the U.S. President and uses his power to try to ruin Superman, calling him a "curse upon this planet". Superman must face-off against a team of super heroes who are working for Luthor but with Batman's help victory could be possible. The art is vivid with bold colours and limited detail giving it a cartoon-like visual style. But it works and I like it.In Supergirl, Batman discovers a small space craft on the bottom of the sea and close to Gotham City. A young woman with super powers walks the streets of the city until she is found by Batman and introduced to Superman. Events lead to a confrontation with Doomsday. Batman wielding an axe was a surprise but it is Darkseid who is the real mastermind in this story. Even Krypto the Super Dog makes an appearance. The artwork by Michael Turner and Peter Steigerwald is more detailed and contemporary and is a real contrast to that of McGuiness, Vines and Stewart. Jeph Loeb's writing is memorable and entertaining and he makes good use of interior monologue.Extras in this Absolute edition include several variant covers, a brief discussion on Supergirl by Jeph Loeb, 24 pages of sketches and some DC Direct figure designs. Absolute editions are expensive but, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Readers considering this edition should also consider Absolute Batman Hush and Absolute Justice. Absolute Superman/Batman Vol 2 is due for release in April/May 2014. So is this Absolute edition worth your time and money? Absolutely.
