bite away tool
I waited to review this tool until I had an occasion to use it. And I will admit I was super skeptical. I react to mosquito, sand fly, bees, etc more than the usual person - have epi pen for bees. Per my doctor I am unusually reactive to insect bites. I got a bite (NOT a bee sting)... not sure by what - it was on the under side of my wrist. I wish I would have taken before and after shots because it was amazing. First, the pen/tool is unusual. It's something new to use - so after rereading the instructions and trying a few times, I got it done. When applying the tool be prepared it will feel HOT - but it doesn't burn. Now if you used it over and over and over on the same spot without stopping - you might be able to harm yourself. And they do note if you have any conditions that lower your sensitivity to pain or feeling - don't use this tool. Having said all of that - there is a slight learning curve and then you get it. I was surprised at the heat - I guess I wasn't sure what it feel like - but once I knew that was the process and that it didn't really hurt - maybe slightly uncomfortable for a second or two - it was easy. The result is amazing. The redness, swelling and itching that came with it was almost immediately reduced. I did reuse it about 3 times in about 5 minutes for complete relief from the itching. It is the following morning. I can barely see the bite and it is not red or itchy at all. Period. THAT is a miracle for me. I usually itch and swell for days and days. It's just misery. I THINK I may have found something that will make my life a lot more tolerable. Hooray! I am so excited about it. I may purchase one of these for my sister who has the same kind of reactions I do to insect bites. A couple of notes: This tool does NOT prevent or stop you from catching insect born diseases - and it is slightly uncomfortable with the heat - but partly because you don't know what to expect. That is quickly solved with correct use. I recommend just trying it on your skin once to prepare for the sensation. I keep the directions rubberbanded to the tool so that I never forget how to use it - but with summer here and more time on front deck - I'll be using it a lot. Right now, if I could give it 10 stars I would. I am going to try and get a before and after photo to add to my review. Having said that, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new information seem useful.

It definitely works! 3 seconds of burning sensation are better than hours of itching!
I have always had trouble with mosquito bites. These insects just love me despite repellents and each bite will usually swell up by several inches + horrible itching. And those will stay for a good week. With nothing to lose I bought this device, and I couldn't believe it how well it worked. I treated the bites about 15 minutes after they occurred with the 3 second setting. I will say that I have a high pain tolerance and I could definitely feel the ceramic plate of the device heating up quickly to 127°F (so just before you think you will get a burn mark it'll be over, no worries you won't get burned, it just feels hot). This is necessary for it to work and worth it (the manufacturers said this will increase circulation to the blood flow but I also read some other independent articles that talked about that heat will destroy the protein in the poison that the insect injected you with; so I'm not sure which of these is actually true but either way it works)! If you can't handle the heat up, just have someone else hold it for you.The device has a 3 sec and 5 sec setting. Suggested use is 3 sec for 1st treatment and 5 sec for subsequent. I started with the 3 sec treatment > 5 minutes after the first treatment the itching stopped. And 20 minutes later the swelling from the bites were gone and could hardly see the injection site of the bite (see before & 20 min after pics). I'm amazed. I will say that the itching stopped sooner on the "fleshy" part of my leg (5min after first treatment) versus the more "boney" part around the ankle it took about 10 minutes before I felt the itching subside. 24 hours later, the bites did come back, swelled up and started itching again. So I did a subsequent treatment of 5 seconds (it does hurt a bit, but once it reaches the temp, you actually don't feel it - I almost felt I could bear the 5 sec treatment better than the 3 sec because your body realizes: the heat stops heating up... but that's just my personal feeling about it). I'll have to see if the itching returns after another 24 hours, but I will say this: when I used creams or other things to eliminate the itch, it only lasted about an hour - at least this one will take care of it for 24!PRO: no chemicals; takes itch, swelling & redness away for up to 24 hours; 3 or 5 sec treatment duration available; small, portableCONS: treatment does hurt, but will not burn you (and I will take 3 seconds of burning sensation over the hours of itching anytime!!!); might need subsequent treatments if you're really allergic (like me)5 stars for me because it really works on mosquito bites.

Works but can burn your skin
Not sure why Amazon is asking about suction power if the product doesn't suck anything up.Anyhow, I bought this heat pen for bug bites because I couldn't take the itching anymore. Anti-itch creams don't work on me and I hate applying DEET for prevention. DEET also isn't very good for you or leather seats (it melts?). The itching is so bad that my bug bites always turn into open wounds from all the incessant, violent scratching. I found out about this product through a friend while we were camping and I was getting eaten to shreds. The heat can be a little painful for those with sensitive or thinner skin, but it definitely stops the maddening itch. While I can handle the heat, my husband gets easily burned. I recommend placing a punch hole reinforcing sticker on the tip if your skin can't handle direct contact. That way, it only touches the bug bite bump and not the rest of the skin.Overall, wonderful product, a lifesaver, and convenient to carry around. I just keep it in my purse when I'm out and about.
