Wired For Joy!: A Revolutionary Method for Creating Happiness from Within

This Method Changed my Life
I am a graduate of the EBT method and fully believe that I am a healthier, happier person as a result. Five years ago, before I discovered this life-changing method, I was an overweight yo-yo dieter who used food as a stress reliever. Today, I am a healthy weight and have kept off the 60 pounds I lost thanks to the tools discussed in this new book. I have also overcome several stress related illnesses, again using the tools I learned in this method, as mentioned in this new book.I found the book easy to read and entertaining. I was fascinated and riveted by the scientific explanations on how the brain works in regards to the stress we encounter in our everyday lives. Even as a graduate and practitioner of the EBT method I am continually amazed by the refined development this method employs to embrace new science and research in brain science. The methods and tools outlined in this excellent overview and practical guide of the EBT program are effective and easy to use in everyday life. Read the book, try the tools and see if you agree with me that this book can change your life for the better, freeing you from the strangle-hold of stress and moving you to more moments of joy.

Practices Adapted to Conditions: Golden
This book is impressive for its practicality -- five categories of awareness/response are clearly described, from nearly out of control to adaptable/joyful. Then Mellin outlines her means of coping constructively with the four lower levels. Very workable, if you like structures and enjoy putting them into use, developing feedback, and consciously noting what's different. Though there is a lot to learn here, it's carefully parceled out and not at all difficult to make sense of and use of. If the book did nothing more than establish simply and directly that addictive behavior has developed in response to internal stress that can be straightforwardly dealt with, it would be useful, and the book does much more than that: it gives practical, doable means to deal with any stress.Through my lens, real change requires deeply being with one's internal belief structures, and Mellin's methods don't quite do that . . . Eugene Gendlin's Focusing would be the apt complement, the next step into depth. But that's not a complaint -- the concepts and practices are genuinely useful.

Help with Stress
I found the book & the EBT methods very interesting. I never heard of EBT before and have just started trying to use some of the methods. They definately do work. The book goes into how the brain works and was an interesting read. The EBT methods are easy to understand. Definately worth looking into for anyone trying to get a handle on the stress in their life.

It's as if they think I was always like this. I was not
To those of you saying you want more info about what to do and less anecdotal stories: You might prefer her earlier book, "The Solution." I do.I did this program in the earlier incarnation. It changed the way I experience life. I listen to people talk about the things that stress them and I feel I have this huge advantage. I tell people about it, but as far as I know, no one has gone through the training because of me. It's as if they think I was always like this. I was not. I used to be very anxious all the time. I felt unprepared to be an adult and the world frightened me. I felt incapable of doing the basic things adults do, definitely unprepared to live on my own. The world was a very scary place to me. Going to work was a scary thing. Socializing was a scary thing. That is so not me now. It makes me smile to think about that. I'm so lucky I did not have to spend more of my life in that state. It's been about 14 years since I first read The Solution and did the program and I still use these skills daily. But now I live on my own, feel little stress even though I'm in a demanding doctoral program and have a very healthy social life. Although many of my worst fears in life have come true (infidelity, divorce, death, etc), I know I can handle these things and move through grief and pain and come out the other side able to appreciate the rewards of those experiences. Better still, I think those experiences have given me valuable gifts that I would not trade (well, the first two, not so much the loss through death, though that does help me to cherish daily life and the people I still have).I have also seen a review criticizing other reviews because "I feel happy I read this book" is not a book review. I agree with what you are saying, but I also get where they are coming from. For myself, I have worked through these books and the program with all its hokiness and I find it difficult to express how much it has helped me to grow and become more myself. I think after that experience, I find it difficult to focus on just the book. I feel compelled to include the program as well. I happen to agree with some reviewers about this book. I did not relate to the stories in this latest book. I thought they sounded like fantasy, not reality. The Solution and The Pathway are the ones I read again from time to time.

Living a Life of Joy!
I owned just about every self-help book on the market until I found EBT. EBT has been the "missing link" I was looking for, and as it continues to evolve has been a source of great joy, comfort and healing for me.Even though I am part of the EBT community and a graduate of the Method, I still found the book very helpful. EBT has always felt intuitively "right" for me, and now as I learn more about the neuroscience behind the method, I understand why. The tools mimic the brain's natural process of self-regulating so that I can return to my natural state of joy.I feel so joyful right now thinking of all the positive ways the tools have helped me become resilient to the stresses in my life and helped me access the blessings of life, especially intimacy and spirituality. I feel so grateful for this latest book and the science and tools that are presented. Thank you so much, Laurel!!

I read most of it. I have a friend who now regulates his drinking because of this process but it did not appeal to me for some reason. it worked for him, but I pass.

The tools I've been looking for
I've read many books on managing emotions and this is the best at showing specific tools to move beyond the pain of anger and hurt.

So useful!
This is a fantastically readable book with real practical tools for overcoming depression. I am a survivor of abuse and have stuggled for years with despair and depression. The approach in this book has helped me to take back my life and my emotions. Thank you!

Highly Recommended
Great information...need to take the course to learn more how to apply to my own life situations though. It's really wonderful to learn about how the brain works and why we are affected the way we are. I personally have lots of issues to work through and will need some guidance, but if you're not bombarded with "history" then the application should be easier.
