Lace Dobro Neck Sensor - Round Neck - 3/8 tall

Dobro pickup
This dobro magnetic pickup does what I hoped it would do and more. Great output and without a preamp (no batteries! yay!). It was easy to install on my Cort resonator. I turned the pickup around so the lead was uppermost, and nicely positioned to feedthrough one of the 3 small sound holes to the immediate rear of the fretboard. Desoldered the end socket to accomplish this, fed the lead around the outer circumference of the (empty) cone well to where I had a 12mm hole drilled for me under the strap button. Pulled the lead through and resoldered with fresh shrink wrap, to the socket. Socket in place and nuts cinched up I reassembled and took the opportunity to cut back the string slots a tad on the bridge saddle, for improved intonation. I've tried it on mosfet PA amp, keyboard amp and my Pignose. Works great. Also on a guitar valve amp - forget it! Straight into PA, flat Eq and you're away. Careful not to overdrive, because the sound of the cone gets muddied by too much gain.

Decent Resonator Pickup for the Price
I bought this pickup to use on round neck resonator guitars (single cone and tri-cone) that I need to amplify but do not want to modify. I get the best resonator sound using a quality condenser mic near the upper bout but that only works if the PA is good and the sound tech knows what they are doing. Next best is a pickup that mounts on the biscuit or cone (Highlander, Fishman, Schatten, or K&K) but that requires at least dis-assembly of the guitar and often holes drilled. A condenser mic isn't always practical at a jam or one-set gig (and many clubs won't have one) so I wanted a low-profile pickup that could be stuck below the strings with two-sided tape. That way I could use it when needed on any resonator with no modification to the guitar.I tried a Lace Ultra-Slim acoustic pickup but could find no place to install it that did not contact the strings on an NRP, Recording King, Regal, Johnson, or Republic. Not quite as "ultra slim" as one might hope. Several reviews said the Dobro Neck Sensor was a better fit so I gave it a try. This pickup is shorter but one caveat is that the 3/8" measurement does not include the two-sided tape which adds at least 1/16" to the height. Regardless, this pickup will not fit at the end of the neck without contacting strings fretted at the 12th fret or above on any resonator I tried. But I can move it down closer to the cover plate and get sufficient clearance. Removing the double-sided tape that came on the pickup and using a thinner version (available at many hardware and art supply stores) also helps. If you only play slide or never fret above the fifth fret this pickup will fit most round neck resonators. The pickup comes with an endpin jack that can be permanently installed and Lace includes a loop in the cable secured with what looks like a wide rubber band. This allows the jack to be easily secured on the existing strap endpin. I ran the cable from the pickup down the face of the guitar at the waist and secured it along the lower bout with painter's tape. That keeps it nicely out of the way but involves no permanent modifications to the guitar. (Be careful removing the double sided tape especially if your resonator is painted. Try putting masking or painter's tape down first and sticking the double sided tape to that.)I was able to get usable output level from this pickup going straight into a guitar amp. The output is "gentle" so if you are using an acoustic amp or going straight into a PA you might consider using a pre-amp/DI. I've had great luck with the L.R. Baggs Para DI and seen several others that would work equally well. Good ones have tone controls that help you tweak the sound from the guitar rather than depending on the sound tech.If you expect the sound to be an amplified version of an acoustic resonator you will be disappointed. This is essentially an electric guitar pickup. The sound will include a bit of the resonator ambiance but it has a sound more like an electric guitar than an acoustic resonator. It's not a bad sound, it's just not an acoustic sound. I tried blending a mic and this pickup using a small mixer and was able to get a cool sound. I ran the pickup through an analog delay pedal set all the way to wet with a very short and the sound combined with the mic signal was pretty cool. This pickup did play well with the pedals I tried. I was able to get some cool sounds from this pickup playing slide into analog delay and overdrive pedals. I didn't crank it up to 12 but because the pickup is decoupled from the resonator feedback was not a problem.

Very disappointing. Slopily made. Noisy (Hummmmmmmmmm)
I was very excited about this product when I finally discovered it. I was looking for a pickup to use on my biscuit bridge resonator guitar. Lace has a great reputation and supposedly had designed this pickup for dobro resonators. I try to buy American when possible. When I received the package it said Made In USA in big letter right on the box, this was gonna be good. When I opened it the first thing I noticed were poorly printed letters on the front of the device. Some of the letters for "Lace Sensor" were not completely there. No big deal. The next thing I noticed was that the cheap looking foam tape they had stuck on it was crooked. No bid deal I could fix that. Then when I tried to put it inder the strings it wouldnt fit on one side. I looked under the tape and there was a big wad of epoxy just stuck on there and covered by the tape. This made the height of the thing 5/8 on one end instead of 3/8 like it was supposed to be. Ugly and sloppy. Finally I fixed all those things. I finally was able able to plug it in. Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! :( The thing did manage to capture the acoustic nature of the guitar but the Hum and buzz was terrible. It would not be usable for a live performace in front of an audience. Just too Noisy. I hope this is not a representation of Lace's new approach to quality. For something to say so proudly "made in USA" they did a terrible Job.

Tone that sounds twice as expensive.
Can't say enough good things about the Lace Resophonic Sensor. It was relatively easy to install in my round-necked Gibson Dobro (slung fingerstyle), is very low noise and has great tone. I tried a couple other pickups prior to this one; the Lace design just works best with my instrument. For the money, this one can't be beat!

Pastilla para dobro
Excelente sonido, hay q considerar q entrega un nivel de audio demasiado bajo, menor a un micrófono de mano y el preamplificador que recibe la señal debe estar bastante alto

What a pity
Well, I am satisfied with the sound, the handling, and the quality of speed and shipping. But the quality of the workmanship is low. The pick-up should be glued between the guitars body and the strings, the p/u is flat enough to fit between those things to work, but who controlled the quality before selling it? Someone brazed it and did not mention to put the wire into the p/u. The result is that the p/u is a bit to thick to proceed as planned. Finally I tried to adjust it by an electrician who melted the whole thing into something different .....
