Great history lesson — The Godfather’s Cuban versión
Great book, I was a little skeptic at first but towards the end you just don’t want to put it down. It is hard to remember this is non-fiction.My only complaint is that the book leaves you wanting more; the book describes the public record very well and the book seems to be well researched, but I wish it had a little more insight on the personal life of these bolineéis, especially Battle.Nevertheless, it is great reading and will be enjoyed by most who have lived or live in Miaminor the Hispanic neighbors of NYC or New Jersey.

The comprehensive study of a once honorable life, destroyed by delusion and hubris.
The Corporation, by T. J. English, is the most detailed chronicle of a ruined life I have ever read. The main character evolves throughout the book from an honorable revolutionary and war hero into a monstrosity of evil, power, and greed, ultimately becoming a perfect sociopath.English captures the true nature of a RICO investigation. Unfortunately, the single-minded obsession of the lead investigator exposed him as a bit of a dick, leaving me with no one left to like in the book. Cases like this will do that. I know. I used to investigate them for a living. Still, T. J. English has crafted an enthralling opus on the Cuban mob, maintaining his status as the best true-crime writer of our generation. I highly recommend this book for readers of any genre. It's that good.

Interesting book
I ordered this book for my grandson. My husband is mentioned in this book. He was a law enforcement officer in Union City. I find the book extremely interesting being Cuban myself.

Overall pretty good read on East Coast culture in the US
Overall pretty good read on East Coast culture in the US. The beginning and middle were strong connecting the Bay of Pigs actors with significant US events and policies in the 60’s-80’s. The last part of the book I felt was unfocused and repetitive. Could have wrapped it up quicker

Outstanding!
This is a thoroughly researched and well written book. The story is both captivating and and complex. Mr. English knows how to tell the story, while giving the reader in depth descriptions making you feel as though you are right next to these infamous characters. I'm a huge fan of organized crime books and history. Before reading this book, I had a sciolistic understanding of the Cuban Mafia. This work is a real eye opener and I highly recommend this to anyone interested in organized crime.

Highly recommended specially for people of Cuban ancestry.
Nice research, very interesting, and easy to read. I never new about the existence of this Mafia-like group. The book alsoincludes very interesting historical information about the Cuban struggle to liberate themselves from the Castro's dictatorship. Mr English is a good writer apparently very familiar with the Mafia modus operandi, as well as with the Hispanic people.

Kennedy Chapter is Laughable
Overall I learned a lot from this book. It was a fun read. But the Chapter about Joe Kennedy is unintentionally hilarious. I get it, you want to sell books about this era throw in the name Kennedy and you will sell books. But come on.Proof of Joe Kennedy meeting with Al Capone is the piano tuner saw them? What, the chimney sweep was not a witness too? Further proof of Kennedy as Chicago gangster is that he bought the Merchandise Mart because it's ... well I have no idea what this had to do with anything. The Kennedy family owned the Merchandise Mart until the late 1990s. Were they still gangsters then? Joe Kennedy had gangsters in Virginia force bar owners to play Frank Sinatra records on a Juke Box is further proof he was in league with gangsters? That one I laughed out loud at. Really had to force people to play Sinatra records in the 50's - 60's. But the biggest canard of all, repeated by this author as well as thousands of others, is San Giancana was responsible for Kennedy winning Illinois. At least Mr. English included Mayor Daley in this conspiracy although without any proof.Mayor Daley controlled the Democratic Party in Illinois. He and his machine, of which my father was a loyal member, got out the votes and if need be found them although this is another myth. Rarely did Mayor Daley need to "find" votes. Getting out the vote is not fraud. The idea that Mayor Daley needed the assistance of Sam Giancana or any other gangster to assure the Irish Catholic Kennedy victory in Illinois is laughable but has become historical myth. As this author does correctly state, Mayor Daley had a peaceful coexistence with the Chicago Mob though out most of his reign. They did not interfere with each other which of course led to both sides benefitting from that co-existence. Mayor Daley had a wonderful relationship with Unions, especially the City employee Unions, many of whom were Teamsters like my father. He did not need Giancana or anyone else to get Teamsters or other City Union officials to get out the vote. Sure they could help but they were not necessary. If you want real facts regarding Joe Kennedy and his activities during Prohibition read Daniel Okrent's Last Call. There is absolutely zero proof of illegality committed by Kennedy during Prohibition. He was an importer before during and after Prohibition, not a bootlegger. Fanciful tails of old gangsters sitting in prison cells or washed up wise guys trying to sell autobiographies or movie scripts proves nothing.

Great deep dive in roots of Miami underworld
T.J. English’s masterful writing makes this historical account an easy read. Highly recommended for anyone interested in organized crime history or just great story telling. English brings the Battles to life and never loses sight of the battle between greed and pride that led to the creation and ultimate downfall of the Corporation.
