Precious Little Sewing Box
The media could not be loaded. When shopping online there is always a question about what to expect. I settled on this box because of the price and the unfinished look because I knew I was going to paint it. When it arrived I was a little shocked that it was not even sanded and there were splinters on it. And it was rather thin wood. I tested how it worked and found a couple of things that were not very good about it.When opening the drawers, it worked fine. But when closing them, they kept hitting the handle. So I planned to make an adjustment, adding a piece of wood to bring the handle off the box more. I used a paint stick that I could easily cut with a razor knife and sanded it to the correct size. This adjustment caused the handle (which was only a thin dowel stick) to be too short. So I created a new handle from a larger piece of wood in an oval shape that is much nicer to hold in your hand. (I need to mention that the box had been glued in places, and it made removal of these handles very tricky.)I really wanted to paint the box, and I noticed that the way the drawers opened and closed, it would probably rub the paint off. So I put washers between the wood and the drawers to create a space so that it wouldn't scrape. Then I thought it might be better to stain the box because stain and rubbed on varnish is much thinner than two coats of paint. I was using a water-based stain for the first time and I was very excited about the choice of colors available at my Lowe's store. The color assortment was going to allow me to have a painted look afterall. I chose the color Poppy, partly because my mother taught me how to sew and that was her favorite flower. It does look a little neon, now doesn't it? My mom was a neon kind of gal, LOLLastly I have wooden flooring in my house and I thought it better to have 4 little feet on the box so that when I set it on the floor, I won't have to use so much padding. I purchased a package of wooden candlesticks from Hobby Lobby and cut off the hollow candle part. The bottom of the box was too thin and uneven so I added a piece of wood to mount the legs. I added a piece of quilt batting wrapped in Mickey Mouse cloth to cover the screw heads from the legs, and to protect the finish from the scissors I will store in the bottom.Overall the box is so gorgeous now! I love it! I had used my Amazon points and got the box for free. And I put $30 in the finishing. Go ahead, make yours now!

Not worth it
The wood is thin, most of the flat pieces of wood are cracked. I filled with wood glue but it doesn't feel super sturdy. There are no joints for the boxes to expand correctly. They use screws for this which doesn't make ANY sense at all. The screws grind away at the sides of the boxes and it got super loose. The screws don't hold after a few times of opening and closing.I tried to replace the screws with chicago screws but I can't find any to fit the width correctly. The joints are over a half inch wide but less than 3/4 inch so there's no good standard size to use.I took the entire box apart, had to sand it down because the sides were splintering. The insides of rhe box had gobs of glue in them that I tried to sand downHonestly I put a ton of work into this box to have to just throw it out.

It's tiny but packs a lot of supplies
It's easy to open. Cute and compact. It wasn't as big as I thought it would be but I was pleasently surprised and how everything fit so nice

This item is so amazing, I love the wood finish and how many of my sewing items that it holds , even my extra-large scissors, this is most definitely a great buy!
