It's too hot! I'm too tired! I might get a blister!
Being fair does not mean giving in and treating everyone the same regardless of their actions! In this retelling of a classic story we see the Little Red Hen planting, watering and weeding her wheat seeds. Once grown she then cuts and threshes. Dog, Duck and Cat are always interested in what she is doing but when she offers to give them some bread if they will help her, they always come up with excuses: too nice a day, planning on playing ball, might get blisters etc.In the middle of this story Duck comes crying to Little Red telling her that Fox has taken Goose. Duck is convinced that it is too late but Little Red says "The least we can do is try." Needless to say the three "friends" are not interested in helping to save Goose so Little Red goes to the next farm to talk with Brown Dog. He agrees to help. Will they be in time to save Goose? What happens when the bread is made? Will the three "friends" get to eat the bread even though they did not help or will Little Red turn them away causing them to be ashamed and regretful over their laziness etc? There is a great less on children (and adults) to learn in this story! You are not entitled to 'bread' if you do not work to earn it! Well written and illustrated. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from our house to yours!

Good Message - Great Graphics
I got this book for free after seeing it on the Kindle Buffet list. I was not familiar with the author but thought this would be something my 3 year old would enjoy. The story is one with a message about doing hard work, courage, and helping others. The graphics are really wonderful and my daughter has asked for this one every night we read and I don't mind reading it to her.Little Red Hen is planting wheat and her friends (Duck, Cat and Dog) stand around and ask questions about what she is going through each step (planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, threshing) and she invites them to help and even offers them some of the bread she will make with the wheat and they make excuses. She leaves her hard work to help Goose when she is stolen by the wicked Fox and when the friends won't help she goes to Brown Dog on the next farm and he helps her. AT the end she., Goose, and Brown Dog enjoy the bread and she has to turn the others away and remind them of the excuses they made when she asked them to help her.

Another Sommer classic tale
Carl Sommer writes good old-fashioned classic tales in a modern way. Well written and illustrated, these stories are becoming favorites with me. In this tale, a hard working when is prepared to share the fruits of her labor for a little help in the fields. She helps others along the way, making new friends and saving the community from harm. When it is time to finally enjoy the bread she has planted, weeded, harvested and baked the lazy fair weather friends are turned away at her door, having learned their lesson. Good moral story for kids.

Little Red Hen
My 5 year old really liked this version of the Little Red Hen. There were some parts I did not remember about the goose being kidnapped, that may be scary to smaller children.

excellent engaging story
The story line was very engaging for my 5 year old. Also, the format was perfect for an ebook making it easy to just enjoy the old familiar story without frustration. Pictures were very well drawn as well.

This is a different version than the one I knew
The pictures are lovely, it is a good book for students age 2-8, it may be a little complex for younger children, but they will still enjoy the pictures. The story is great

Beautifully illustrated story!
This book is very well-written and the illustrations are absolutely beautiful! I really liked how the reader has the ability to tap on the screen to enlarge the text. I highly recommend this book for young children.
