Insightful Book
I read Andy's first book and enjoyed this book just as much. Unlike other writers who always show themselves in the best light he is honest in showing who he is, the good and his human side. Many people think what he does is a bit crazy, and that may be the case but that's why you should read the book. It made me look at my life in a different way.

Excellent and very enjoyable climbing book!
An excellent book that gives you a unique insight into the mindset of a climber. What makes him tick? What drives him on in the face of threatening and dangerous situations? How does he justify the continuous risk? Not to mention the harsh and unforgivable conditions he keeps placing himself in.The book gives you answers to some of these questions, but they might not apply to anyone but Andy Kirkpatrick. The climber's experience is a highly personal and subjective one.I enjoyed it very much in spite of being a non-climber. I think you will too.

A very honest and enjoyable read!
A very honest, if self deprecating, recounting of the post Psycho Vertical phase of his life so far. He describes his clmbing, his partners, his life, and his opinions just as he sees them. A really enjoyable read!

A great and gritty story
This is nicely written and considering the start that Andy Kirkpatrick had in life this is a testament to what passion and work can achieve. Andy climbs on his own a lot which must be a little scary. Well done. Bought his other book as well.

Good stuff, but..
As a mountaineering book this one kicks off great but after about a half into the text it's more like everyday drama stuff. Funny, engaging, warming, endearing but not mountaineering any more ! The name Cold Wars feels deceiving by the end of the book.Hope Psychovertical will be closer to the substance cause as a winter soloist I feel very alone and need company !!!

Just read it
If you need some stories to both put you in awe of what's seemingly impossible and also give you hope that you might be able to climb hard routes this is a great one to pick up.

Compelling and engaging book from a facinating character
Second book from author I have read. It is equally as compelling and facinating and honest insight into the man and experiences he has climbing around the world (successes and failures). Clearly, Andy is passionate about climbing but it is interesting to understand his fears/risks/ challenges and battle with demons that try to undermine him achieving his goals. Writing style is easy to read and is a real page turner. I would recommend this book as a great read for climbers and non climbers.

Another great book from Andy K, both funny and somber in equal measure!
If you've ever climbed, then you'll quickly get a feel for the ups and downs of being a 'normal' person and trying to hold down a job and relationships but always feeling the pull of climbing. If you're not a climber, then it will surely give you a wonderfully well described insight into the world of climbing, and on the edge alpinism. The glossary at the back useful for anyone! A great read that had me crying with laughter at points, to tears of sadness at other! 5 stars for this page turner!

honesty is the best policy
I wanted an entertaining read about climbing having been an armchair climber since lopping off an E3 in a quarry and hitting the deck some twenty odd years ago. I got much more than I bargained for with Andy highlighting many similarities for most stereotypical men in the office/building site/factory who struggle with the dichotomy of becoming a family man whilst trying to retain some part of themselves that existed before this state, a part of a mans pomp, his make up, what is to each us, part of our essence or purpose. brilliant writing putting into words thoughts I and many others have struggled with for years. An the climbing stories are pretty impressive too!Well done youth.
