Sport-Brella Premiere XL UPF 50+ Umbrella Shelter for Sun and Rain Protection

I bought this umbrella back in August 2020, and it’s still going strong in July 2025. Just wrapped another beach weekend with it—flawless, as usual. We bring it every single time. It’s been everywhere, used hundreds of times, and it’s held up like a champ. I added one of those umbrella hooks from Amazon that slides on the pole—great for hanging towels and gear. Setup? Stupid simple. Pull it out, twist the base into the sand, pop the top on. Just pay attention to the wind unless you want to reenact Mary Poppins across the shoreline. I switch between upright mode and what I call “tent mode” for windy days. Just tilt it, fill the sand pockets, and boom—rock solid. It shrugs off gusts like it’s no big deal. Yeah, the zipper windows corroded shut years ago—but I never used them anyway. A few threads around the support arms are loosening, but after six years of beach weekends, that’s a badge of honor. Still works perfectly.

I had one of the original Sportbrellas and I loved it. After many years of use it finally split the bed. I immediately ordered another one and I’m very impressed by the upgrades and changes they’ve made to it. It’s even better than the first one. See you at the beach!

We bought the Sport-Brella after seeing one being used at a soccer tournament. This is one of the best things I have ever purchased! The ability to have shade on the sidelines, at parks, and at the beach is amazing. We have used it on sunny days, as well as snowy and rainy days. It is easy to carry and isn't heavy. The flaps can be secured with ground stakes, and the umbrella can tilt. At a tournament this weekend, our Sport-Brella got so many compliments, I realized it was time to write a review!!

The good thing is that this umbrella has lots of tie downs. You can stake it down well, and a big rock, a log, or a cinder block will hold the pole in place. That weight helps overall, too. This is a non-starter at the beaches here, as the wind would carry it away before it was even set it up. But I actually use it around the campfire, set back a bit. It's light enough to pack into any camp that you're making multiple trips to set up. I sleep elsewhere, my van or a tent, but this is a nice fire reflector and dry in the drizzle. It would be easy to sleep in if you wanted to. This sets up really well between two trees, with its back to brush -- even in wind this works well, if It's tied down. If it isn't tied down in the wind, it will almost certainly blow, roll, and break. It's just a big umbrella.

This is great for the beach. It opens quickly and is sturdy. It is large enough to accommodate two to three people.

The inclusion of side flaps for extra sun protection is thoughtful and useful during the peak hours of sunshine. However, on particularly windy days, additional anchoring might be necessary to keep it grounded – a small concession for the overall benefits it provides. All in all, this XL Umbrella Shelter has been a fantastic investment for our soccer season. It's durable, user-friendly, and provides a haven from the heat, making those weekend games something to look forward to, regardless of the weather. A solid addition to any sports parent's sideline gear.

Honestly, my expectations weren’t high and I’ve been pleasantly surprised how much we’re enjoying this umbrella. The setup and take-down is unmatched, SO FAST. The corkscrew on the pole will go several turns into dirt/grass and provides a great anchor point, add four more quick stakes into the ground and this thing is firmly planted in the ground. At the park when everyone else’s portable shelters were going airborne during a large gust of wind, our umbrella didn’t budge. We always leave the vented windows about 50% unzipped for more wind resistance. This thing is going to work awesome on the beach. On park days we put a blanket inside for our kids to nap and set a camping loveseat in front to enjoy the shade.

I had an older sportbrella for over 10 years and I loved it! We used them all the times under some harsh conditions with no issues.The only reason I needed new ones was because my old ones started to get holes in the fabric. Ill start with positives. Great size and easy to put up. Newer is not better. I decided to go back for another 2 sportbrellas and the new design and the quality has completely disappointed me. Let me say where we are at the beach we cannot lay these on the ground and must be used as umbrella. 1. There is no top vent on the umbrella. When the wind hits it is a solid hit to the top and with no top vent the space under the umbrella gets hot. 2. Yes there are the windows but if you click the sides to the top connection you completely cover the windows. 3. If you roll up the sides there is no longer the velcro strap to keep them in place. With no velcro strap you use the tie down but that is only on one side and the sides constantly fall down. 4. Quality is lacking. We had the ropes attached during a slightly windy day and the inner poles still bent! Come on sportsbrella . My older 2 had much more wind with no issues. 5. The screw in bottom broke the first day. I used to sing the praises of sportsbrella but the upgrades are degrades. Hopefully they will go back to the quality and designs that work for beach use Needed.. stronger poles.
