The founder of this company is in fact herself Chinese (and grew up in China), and created the product in order to have a safe cooking alternative for her family. As a Chinese person, she is very familiar with the working and societal conditions of China, and she is better equipped than most to supervise these areas. She goes back to China 2-3 times per year to visit the factory and "check up" on the production, QC, and worker conditions in the factory. She can see the true conditions better than any foreigner could, and she always strives to make sure the working conditions are ideal for the manufacture of this product. Workers are paid a living wage and are treated well; in fact, I have lived in China myself as a foreigner and I know that factory jobs are coveted by many Chinese people because they have a predictable living wage and they are treated well in most cases. Q: Can't decide between the VitaClay 2 in 1 rice/slow cooker or the Multi-cooker. Anyone have a preference?

Hi, this is VitaClay, the manufacturer. On our website there is a comparison chart between the models. The main differences between the 2-in-1 cookers and the multi-cookers is that the multi-cookers have a yogurt maker as well as a delay timer. The 2-in-1 models do not have either of these features, but both models make rice and do all of the slow cooking options. If you want to make yogurt and/or delay your cooking start time, the multi-cooker is the way to go. The multi-cooker also has a few other advanced features, such as more precise programming for cooking time (can program in 10-minute increments) and a digital display that is a little bit more intuitive.

Q: Does the clay retain flavors? In other words, can I cook chili in it, and then cook oatmeal in it the next day without the oatmeal tasting like chili?

Hi, this is VitaClay, the manufacturer. Our clay pots do not retain flavors or odors after cooking, and we regularly make lots of different things in the same clay pot, including strong meals like lamb stew, followed by yogurt or white rice (after washing, of course), and there is absolutely no flavor transfer. Our high-temperature water-glazing process, using only water and 2500+ degree heat, seals the clay against any type of food/flavor/scent transfer, and also strengthens the clay a great deal to prevent breakage.

Q: What if the clay inside has broken and when I use it their are strange popping noice?

Well mine has a hairline crack too. I added more tap water to an already hot pot and it cracked halfway across the bottom. Yes they have replacement pots, but you have to buy the lid too. The replacements only come in sets. Depending on how long you have had the pot will depend on the price. They will give a certain percentage off depending on how many months you had the pot before it got damaged. My quote was $20.00 pot + $20.00 shipping. They also want a picture of your cracked pot. If you are extremely careful with this pot it makes great food, but the clay is delicate. Mine sits in my closet still cracked :( I just use other healthy cookware on the stovetop for now.
