I was desperate!
Okay I was desperate. I have a septic tank and no hope of a sewer system, as I live in a rural area. Septic tank was put in, 1976. I encountered real problems about 7 years ago. The septic tank people said I had no bacteria, as it was filled to the brim with water. They replaced the lids with the new pressure release ones and added a machine that pumps air into the tank, and added bacteria to it. That cost 5,000 dollars and others have told me that was very reasonable. Better than 15,000 dollars (at that time) to replace the leach line, tearing down the fence, and destroying my yard. It worked great! 4 years later I had it pumped. Then I needed it pumped again, this year. It was once again over flowing with liquid. But I thought pumping it would take care of it. Within a week the odor started. Called roto rooter and they took off the lids, and it was well above the line. It was nearly to the top of the lid. They told me everything I needed to do and best case scenario was was pumping again for 600 dollars, and not understanding everything they said could go wrong with each step, it could cost 5,000 or more to fix. But then dependent upon a new leach line that would cost a horrible amount of money. I was DESPERATE ! I read about additives and decided to order this product. That was in early April. I immediately reduced water usage substantially. Called green pig, they advised me to use a cup of the liquid product every three days. After about three applications to use the packet. We did. We continued to use the liquid every three days and a couple weeks later added another packet. Since then we have kept up with the liquid. We just started our second gallon. A little over a week ago the smell has completely gone away. Still nervous we are keeping to the protocol they suggested. We will add another packet probably with in a week. When there is no smell that means the water is not above an acceptable level. The pressure lids release the pressure from the water resulting in the escape of the odor. (You can tell I am a novice at this, I am sure). Also my washing machine releases the water into the yard not the tank. I will continue the application but I am ELATED at the results so far. I consider this an excellent product. But with my fingers still crossed ( and a prayer or two) I am not going to deviate from this schedule for awhile. I may start using my dishwasher again but not quite yet. So far I am very impressed with the results. I give green pig a big atta boy, the price is very reasonable when you compare with the alternative methods of repair. (By thousands). So far they have saved me a ton of money! By the way I have talked to them twice and I think it was the same gentleman. Very nice and very available.

Got a little bit of relief but then problem came back and no improvement.
Poured 20 ounces of the emergence treatment in commode because outside tank was 2 inches above the bottom of the outside drain pipe. Next morning, the water level had fallen 8 inches and was 6 inches below the drain pipe. I have a slow draining leach field and this worked very well. I will use the 3-month packet starting in February. Originally I gave this a 5 but the slow draining leachfield came back and the rest of the emergency formula and the pack of green pigs did nothing to bring it back.

WORKED
Bought this stuff for "emergency" use, and glad I did. The sewer line under our guest cabin is only slightly angled all the way underground to the basement of our home next store where it joins our sewer pipe, so is relatively susceptible to clogging. This last clog was so bad that using a plunger in the commode actually forced sewage up through the shower drain, and vice-versa. I next turned to a 25-ft metal sewer "snake," but fully extended it also failed to open the line. As a last resort before an expensive plumber visit, I turned to this emergency enzyme formula, which was now well over a year old. Poured about a quart into the commode and 1/2 quart in the shower drain and left it overnight. The next morning the bowl and shower drains were clear and the sewer line open. This product may not work on all clogs, but it did on ours. Just make sure you follow the directions and be patient. Remember it's designed to dissolve organic material, and not diapers or those "flushable" wipes (that really aren't designed for flushing), or plastic toys, etc.Of course an alternative is the highly caustic or acidic "Liquid Plumber" type liquids, which may or may not work, and are also designed to dissolve organic matter. However, unlike the natural bacterial enzyme formulas like this Green Pig product, you cannot use them in commodes. The heated chemical reaction can melt the wax seals of commodes, or possibly crack the porcelain, as well as presenting a safety issue. Although the manufacturers claim they're "safe for septic systems," anything that's highly caustic or acidic going into the septic tank will kill bacteria, including the ones there designed to break down solids.

This stuff works!!
I have this item as a subscription item. It is as easy as pouring down the toilet. The smell is good and it helps the drain performance. Little pricey but worth the price as it is effective.

Quality Control
The main product is probably good; but the attached septic Tablets need looking in to. The packets are supposed to be a firm/hard tablet. This time the package contained nothing but a jelly mass. Did not open the package.
