XSTEEL 12" AR500 GONG 3/8"

Fun stuff.
I've been shooting at steel for a few years now. Finally decided to get a few of my own when I bought these. If you're reading this and thinking about shooting steel, do it, for a few reasons. First, shooting a reactive target is way better than shooting paper. Every time you hit it, you'll know, especially at a distance. Secondly, safety. Some of the reactive targets, like the orange balls, tend to have rounds going everywhere after a hit. I always set mine up in a way that the steel plate deflects all rounds that hit it directly into the ground underneath it. These do have the potential to be dangerous, but that's only if you're a dangerous shooter. I've heard stories about people setting these up on a berm of a gun pit and plugging away, effectively sending rounds skipping off it over the berm and who knows where...Anyways, on to the plates. I've blasted mine with 9mm, .380, .45, .22, .22-250, .223, and .308. Hundreds if not thousands of rounds into these. You will see some pitting, and hits on the edges will take chunks out. Minimal damage really. I highly doubt I will ever wear this plate out, and on the chance I do when I'm 90, I'll have definitely gotten my money's worth.Pro tip: I use 1/4 20 eye bolts to get proper deflection. I rigged up some simple stands out of all thread and 2x4s. Rebar also works great. So far romex is the best thing I've found to use to hang them, stiff enough to keep swinging down, replaceable enough after rounds tear it to shreds. These are fine plates, would recommend. Happy shooting!

03-24-16 Purchased this 2 weeks ago, I have only had a chance to ring it with 9mm and .45, but this weekend I will be slinging some 5.56 and .308 at it, will update review once that is done. thus far, it laughs at 9mm and .45 from 7 yards -20 yards.Update!*****I purchased this plate back in March of 2016. Since then i have shot it with:-.22lr-9mm (124 grain)-.357-.45-.5.56 (62 grain fmj)-.223 (62 grain and 55 grain fmj).308What i am impressed with is me and a buddy have AP rounds in 5.56, we shot this target 60 times with AP rounds(62 grains) at 50 yards and also at 100 yards. Not once did the round pierce the steel much less go through it. I highly recommend this target for anyone who wants a steel target that will hold up for years to come. We have shot this target about 1,500 times (all rounds listed above) and it is still going strong. Dont think about it.... GET ONE!

Quality AR500 Gong
Awesome AR500 gong. Putting down 500+ rounds of 9MM in the space of a few days did absolutely nothing to dent or deform the target, but only left marks where the lead hit it. No splashback at all, even at 10-12 yards with pistol calibers. Great size to use when teaching inexperienced pistol shooters, as there is enough space to get hits easily. Also fun with rapid fire.Make sure you mount it with good quality hardware! Cheap/weak rope or tow hooks won't cut it, unless you rivet the holes for the bolts. Stick with chain and you'll be fine.

Great Gong and Stops Ricochet!
Very good quality materials. Stops all that I shoot at it. In fact, I have not had one ricochet out of 250+ rounds I have sent at it. I presume that this will last a long time as long as I don't shoot huge calibers, tracers, and full metal jacketed ammo at it. It also has a very nice mellow "gong" to it. Sounds very nice. As always, make sure you are wearing safety glasses and obviously don't shoot at it point blank. Minimum I like shooting at it is ~10-12 yards, the further away the better. If it gets severely dented or gets holes in it, replace it! These are a lot cheaper than going to the ER because of a ricochet! Think twice, shoot once... and shoot safely!

My wife and I had a ton of fun shooting it
Outstanding. Loud, distinctive ding when you hit it. My wife and I had a ton of fun shooting it. We only put about 200 rounds of 9mm on it but there is no damage. I think this will last a long time. If you're new to shooting steel, make sure to bring extra bolts and tools when you go to the range. My chain on one side came loose after 3 magazines with my M9 and nearly cut our day short but we were able to fix since I was prepared. If you're wondering how big a 12" plate is, most dinner plates are 10" around so it's big.

Just SOLID!
*UPDATE 8/5/17* After a couple years of peppering this thing with bullets of all shapes and sizes, I can confidently say that it stands up to abuse! I shoot at it with rifles from .22 up to .300 and pistols from .22 to .45. I've put one little gouge in an edge where a bullet only struck halfway on the target, but that would be expected. I've even hit this thing with LAP .223 ammo and only a couple times has it left a *SLIGHT* crater (barely noticeable). LOVE shooting steel for the instant audible feedback on hits!

So Far This Has Held Up Great - Pays For Itself In Paper Targets USA MADE!!
Really beats paper targets. Works great for handguns. You can hang this in a tree with a couple bungee cords or tie wraps. Or it can be stuck in the ground with a couple inexpensive pieces of rebar. You can also spray paint over the face each time you use it, or tape paper targets to it. JUST BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL OF YOUR BACKGROUND, AS BULLETS THAT MISS CAN GO A MILE +.

Great targets
great target, however I did put a hole straight through at the range the other day. I think it was from my Mosin at 100 yards. I was also shooting .308, .223 and 7.62x39. I was surprised to see that one of these calibers actually made a hole, it must have been the Mosin 7.62 x 54. Probably should use 1/2" for the mosin or increase the distance

Great for handguns, but mine were damaged by my .223 AR-15 at 90 yards away
I just got around to shooting this yesterday for the first time. With a couple of 9mm and .22 handguns this did great. No damage, just chipped the paint away. Then I went back to 90 yards and shot it 3 times with my .223 AR-15. All 3 hits did damage. 2 were small pock marks, and one hit the edge and chipped it away. It does produce a loud gong sound when you hit it. Even at 90 yards away with ear plugs in you can hear the hit!I chronographed my AR with factory ammo and it's shootint at 2900 fps. I'm going to tinker with powder levels for my .223 reloads and see if that makes a difference at 90 yards. I'll update this review after I've done that.**UPDATE** After playing with powder levels I was able to get my .223 down to 2400fps. Even at 2400fps the steel gong was taking damage from 90 yards. They're small pock marks, but over time the target would need to be replaced. This gong will now be handgun only, or rifle from 150 yards or further. I have attached 2 pictures of my steel target and circled the 3 damaged spots caused by the .223.Do not shoot with rifles under 100 yards. Even at 90 yards my .223 did damage!

Great quality gong
Great quality gong.Well cut, no sharp edges. Good audible "ding". Has taken 5.56, 7.62, and .308 at 50, 100, and 200 yards without any issues.

Great target, very satisfying sound when hit for audio feedback at longer ranges. I'd recommend anyone who shoots buy one. .308 barely puts a dent in it at even the closest of ranges.
