Seto knives have a long history in Japan. A company founded by a master sword maker, whose desire was to make the greatest living blades in his country. Yoshi Seto trained with the top sword makers of his day, and made a name for himself that is still known in present day Japan. Even though he is no longer alive, his company is still carrying on his tradition of making the best swords and knives possible, each which is made with beauty and elegance. Seto knives are high quality blades of forged steel sold at very affordable prices. Beautiful pieces for both professional chefs and cooks at home In Japan, metal forging is appreciated as art, rather than work. The forging of blades is an ancient technique that is still employed today. The process yields stronger products than does metal casting due to the constant beating of the metal.

Amazing, extremely high quality knife
So this is an incredible, amazingly constructed knife made of extremely high quality steel - much, much better than even the German knives I own (Wüsthof; J.A. Henckels). The hammered finish and Damascus is gorgeous and the red sandalwood and pakkawood D-shape handle are wonderful. What is more amazing is that as the handle gets wet it retains the grip even better than when dry. My only fault was that the knife arrived out of the box not quite as sharp as I expected or wanted. That said, I sharpened it on my stones to a razor edge and it stays that way with very minimal effort. Thus far I have ordered 3 Seto Knives. 1 (the Nakiri) arrived pre-sharpened to a razor finish, and 2 (the Santoku and the Yanagiba) arrived not as sharp as I desired but were very easily sharpened to befit the quality of the steel they are made with. This is an amazing product and I have and will buy again. The lone critique I have is that the company should ensure that all knives arrive out of the box new at optimal sharpness.

One of my favorites
I really like this knife! It is very sharp (and holds it's edge well), and because of the hammering dents, it truly does have less food stick to it. I have no other knife that releases food the way this one does! Oh, and the handle is very comfortable and actually gets less slippery when wet.I have knives from many makers, both Japanese and German, but this is one of my favorites and I will probably buy more. The only criticism I have is that the blade tang is not well inserted into the handle and you can see both how small the tang is and a one or two millimeter gap between where the knife should have made contact with the handle and where it actually does. I have lots of other knives with better workmanship, but even so, I still like this one a lot!

Good quality, but not as good as higher end knives
Got this for my son as a gift. He loves the knife. He said he needed to purchase some sharpening stones to finish the edge. It fairly sharpe new, but with nice wet stones, it's possible to sharpen to a razor shape edge. I would recommend this for a person that loves to prep food and for making sushi.

Great Value, Great Performer
I have looked at dozens of petty knives trying to find the best price for performance. This little Seto petty knife does not disappoint. It came from Japan in just 5 days. The blade has excellent fit and finish. Very sharp out of the box. The handle and ferrule are a durable plastic, which appears sturdy. This is how Seto is able to sell the knife much cheaper than many others I looked at. If you want value and performance, this little petty knife will do the job. It you want nicer Rosewood or Ho (Magnolia) wood handles, you will pay more. I consider kitchen knives as tools, not objects to be admired. We use the petty just about every day for tasks such as slicing garlic, trimming boneless proteins, fine chopping on smaller vegetables. VG-10 is a very popular knife steel. It will hold a sharp edge a long time, but when it needs sharpening it has to be done on water stones.

Surprisingly hefty.
I ordered this knife originally for its traditional qualities (hammered Damascus finish and handle design) and only discovered upon using it how pleasantly functional it is. This nakiri is very blade heavy, an attribute I would not have sought but which turns out to be a virtue when push-cutting vegetables. The VG 10 edge is sharp, the spine hefty, the length (180mm) longer than most nakiris. Overall a very nice knife at a modest price.

Imperfections. Poor Quality Control.
Update: I received it yesterday and it's perfect. Awesome knife. I'm upgrading it to five stars. Thanks to the seller for sending a beauty.Update: I really like this knife so I reordered it, and from the same seller. I'm hoping the one I previously received and returned was just a quality control issue. Hopefully the next one I receive is a good blade so I can upgrade my review to five stars. I really like the design.Fast shipping and nice knife design, but I had to give it 3 stars because the knife I received has several scratches on the blade; especially bothersome is a scratch on the Kanji logo. This reflects as poor quality control from the seller. I returned the knife. I'm an extensive collector of both tactical and kitchen knives and I take my blades seriously. If I pay good money for a knife it better be perfect. No imperfections aloud until I inflict them, in which case I put the time and effort into restoration myself; it's only fair.

Its a badass.
I am obsessed with this knife. The handle is downright badass and comfortable in my hand. The sharpness is pretty spot on even when I first tested it it felt dull but no its sharp. The design is beautiful. And the overall weight feels even. This is officially my second favorite knife aside from my first knife that was a zwilling. This and my first knife are literally my favorite knives. Ignore the people who write bad reviews they dont know a thing of what they say.

Issss goooddd
Really nice economic knife. I use it in a professional kitchen for small knife tasks like cutting vegetables and I’ve found it really excels in breaking down beef tenderloin. Super sharp out of the box but I find it needs sharpening regularly, and with it being such a high Rockwell hardness a whet atom is a must. Overall this is a beautiful knife for the price and I’ve been happy with it. No regrets!
