This is a beautiful instrument. I love the whole thing. The case is leather with a brass plaque showing the azimuth angles. there three lenses with the sextant. I purchased it to see if I could figure out how to use it as well as for a prop for my art and photography. it is really an elegant little piece.

This is a very nice piece. Its beautiful. The case is quality. Quite small, but functional., good to learn on and can be easily carried with you on your adventures. My son is very happy with it.

I'm fascinated by astronomy and history so I was looking forward to getting this sextant and learning how ancient sailers managed to navigate in a pre-technology era. The device exceeded my expectations. It's a beautiful instrument and comes in an antique looking leather box with a beautiful engraved image on the top. I enjoy having it on my desk and fiddling with it while I'm on phone calls. They did a great job on this device and overall I'm very happy with it.I think they missed the opportunity to make this an educational experience for their customers. I know they have to be careful to issue disclaimers that this is not intended to be used for actual navigation, but I expected that it would come with instructions on how a sextant is used. I'm sure I can find that information elsewhere, but it ought to be included with this beautiful reproduction and then the experience would be complete.

Bought this for my son's 18th birthday, and although he loved the sextant and case, he was quickly disappointed to learn it was non-functional. Look closely at the first mirror; it appears to almost be perpendicular to the viewing scope. In other words, it is not angled sufficiently to bounce off of the second mirror. Compare images with other larger, more expensive sextants and you will see the difference. The mirrors are non-adjustable, so having it misaligned renders it inoperable. We still think it's great--very handsome--but will return it for another item.

I grabbed this for my mother who loves all things nautical, and has had that as her theme for decorating for decades.Looks great, nicely done as a display piece. Solid, well constructed, even the leather box is attractive for display.My mother is going to like this.
