Amazing story.
This book is incredibly sad, but super encouraging. These siblings are nothing short of amazing and it's been so cool to catch up with them now. The book is a bit repetitive, I feel like I read the exact same thing through multiple chapters, but overall I enjoyed it.

I love John Glatt's writing.
This book was so interesting. I found it almost beyond belief. The Turpin siblings endured such terrible treatment from their parents. I'm glad the state intervened and got them the help they needed. I am glad they are doing well and they have the help they need to prosper.

Fascinatingly awful story with meh writing
Devastating story but poorly written. Agreed with the other review that calls this a bad book report. The back story on the parents is fairly well done, however he goes on to tell the story with the same details and verbiage as what is used in the court proceedings so it's very repetitive. Just felt like it was lacking substance overall. That said, it's an easy read and still interesting because of how awful the parents were.

Good book about a very sad story
Lots of details in the book I didn't know before. What makes it even more tragic is that there were so many missed opportunities for someone to have reported them, or asked for a welfare check on the kids. And no one said anything even tho they thought the family and the habits were strange. It would have been nice if author did a follow up as far as how the kids are doing now, but I was able to find Jordan on tiktok and Jennifer I think it was FB.

Sad story, but well written.
Good book, such a sad story for these children. The author has written it well.

well written true crime
I put true crime in three categories. The first - classic, rise above the genre (In True Blood). The second - well written, researched, compelling/unique. The final - poorly edited repackaged court transcripts, etc. I would put this solidly in number two. John Glatt is one of the best true crime authors. As far as the story - absolutely 100 percent heartbreaking and mind boggling. Worth the read.

Mind boggling story of child neglect and parental abuses. It is a sad indictment of how children can slip through the net as society chooses not to intrude despite their misgivings. Well written and researched I was engrossed and saddened from beginning to end. A small criticism would be the recurring focus on the parental motivations for the abuses, rather than the children's recovery in its aftermath. However, given how recent this case is the recovery of the children is still ongoing. Definitely worth a read if this is your area of interest.

Good but disturbing read. It is pretty scary that there are people out there who do things like this to their own children. They hid their disturbing and heartbreaking antics really well and the world had no idea.
