Works great!
Great quality, sound clearly, I have used it for over 1 year, works great, no problem. But be aware the goose neck is quite long and also you need a mixer with phantom power.

These are great Microphones ....
I have been using this model of microphone for years. I have installed them in may churches and other venues. It is a good brand, good price. The XLR connector on the bottom of the mic has never failed on any of the microphones I have in service.BE SURE TO HAVE THE PHANTOM POWER TURNED ON FOR THAT CHANNEL OF YOUR MIXER.This mic will not work without "Phantom Power" if your mixer does not have Phantom Power you can add a phantom power supply between your mixer and this mic. If your mixer only turns on phantom power for the whole mixer, that is fine. There is no harm having phantom power on input channels that don't need it.

Great mic. Also purchase the CVD desktop base.
Original April 9, 2013 review:The photos for this item are extremely misleading; CVG12-B/C and CVG18-B/C do NOT include a mute button or red light-ring mute indicator. This is the only reason I gave it three stars. Otherwise, the quality is outstanding, as you'd expect from Shure microphones.CVG12S / CVG18S = With Mute switch/LED, Inline PreampCVG12RS / CVG18RS = With Light-ring, Mute Switch, Inline PreampApparently none of these models are available in the USA market. (Why???)As for the CVG12-B/C and CVG18-B/C, B means it's black, and C means it's cardioid... which is the currently case for all model variations. Also, just in case you aren't aware: If you want your mic setup to look like the one in the photo, you need to also buy the ~US$60 CVD desktop base, lest you're OK with using the supplied flange mount, drilling holes into your desk, and keeping your mic mounted at fixed position. Finally, the 18" (or 12") is literally the length of the gooseneck only, both the stiff and flexible portions. It does not include the base nor the microphone length. [i.e., it is measured from the bottom of the microphone (not the tip), to the top of the base (not the bottom, and I'm not talking about the CVD base either).] Hope that makes sense.-----Amended September 3, 2014 review:It seems Shure (or someone) has taken notice and has corrected the photos on both Shure's site and Amazon's site, so I've changed my review from three stars to four. Thank you, whoever did that. Now the only reason I didn't increase it to five stars is that the aforementioned mics still aren't sold in the USA, which is disappointing, and was one of the reasons I purchased this in the first place. After reading some of the other reviews, yes, this thing needs phantom power. If you're connecting it to a computer, the Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Signal Adapter is a great option, and is what I use. This mic won't work on its own.If you haven't noticed already, everything Shure carries a steep price premium. That's the biggest downside to this mic. It's really only worth the money if you have a (professional) reason for buying such a mic, or you just like having nice high quality things with money to blow. (This guy. *points thumb at chest*) If the latter, your life isn't going to get stupendously better or anything, no matter how much you like the sound of your own voice.Enjoy the mic!

First Three Images Misleading, Otherwise Fabulous Podium Mic
I needed 2 gooseneck mics with XLR jack for our church. This fit the bill for price and features. Installed them yesterday and was blown away by their sensitivity. These replace two older Crown gooseneck mics, and I had to turn down the level on our sound board. In a dry run test, they sounded clear and should work well. In terms of build, this is a Shure product and I've always found them to be a great value for the money. Also, nice touch is the package did include a desktop mount and wood screws.Yes, I agree with other reviewers that the image is a little misleading but if you actually read through the page on Amazon, they indicate the desktop base is optional and 'Frequently Bought Together' with the microphone.Bottom line: you've been warned in the reviews: there is no tabletop base or mute button on this model. However, this is a great product for the money.

Great sound, but be warned: a very long gooseneck mic!
Bought this for our church podium. I mounted it and it seems stable. The sound is excellent; couldn't be happier. It picks up very well; I only have to put the soundboard volume on like a 2 out of 10 for good sound.Just a note: this is a very long gooseneck microphone! I wish I would have bought the 12"; in fact I considered returning it and getting the 12" but ultimately just didn't feel like messing with uninstalling it, boxing it up, shipping it and then reinstalling the replacement. I would only recommend the 18" for a very large and deep lecturn/pulpit. The microphone comes to the end of our pulpit and is right in my face. In fact if a shorter person (I'm 6'1")were at our pulpit and had to pull it down it would stick out past our pulpit. Not a con to the product itself, just something worth taking note of.

Sure beats our original mic.
Could not get the first replacement unit to work but received a replacement quickly and it really works great. Didn't realize how poorly the old mic was until it quit working and got this unit. It's been in use for about 6 week so far.
