Watercolor: Chinese Brush (How to Draw & Paint) Paperback – January 1, 2003

It is very hard to find a good step by step book of Chinese painting, so I was happy to find this one. The steps in this book are easy to follow, the paintings are beautiful and the size is a plus, although I didn't expect the book to be that big when I ordered it. The only downside is that this is a thin book that is limited to different types of flowers and birds. Wish it had more examples of how to paint other subjects.

This book is a gem for learning brush painting. The illustrations are large and in very bright hues. It is not a thick book, rather condensed but it gives directions for the following motifs: peony, rose, morning glory, fuchsia, a cat, various birds and butterflies, bamboo, orchid, basic calligraphy strokes, amaryllis, plum blossoms, anemone, wisteria, agapanthus, peach blossoms, and one landscape. There is also a page about brushes and other materials used. Strokes are shown with each petal as they are rendered. Same for birds and butterflies, leaves and branches. Very aesthetically pleasing, the finished paintings. Loose and fun.

I've just started learning Chinese brush painting and found this to be a clear, lucid, effective introduction. It's only 32 pages or so but packed with clear illustrations and instructions. You can see the mastery in Ms Wang's paintings when you try to repeat what seems so easy! The book seems to suggest there is an (optional?) kit that goes with it. Not a big deal, most ingredients except the ink stick and stone are common.

.....you will love this book. it is large, easy to read, pix are very helpful. i am taking lessons from an expert, but this book helps memore than the instructor. i would highly recommend this lucy wang book & will be looking into other instructional book written by her. very useful in my practice & learning additional ways to paint in this style.

I'm happy i got this book. The instructions are Simply put, Easy to do . The book is fairly large, so the illustrations are ready to see! And it was nicely priced.

Wow. I don’t know what to say. I was very excited for this to come in the mail, but I was disappointed when I opened my package. The book is super huge and there are only a handful of pages in the book.The instructions are not that easy to read, and I would recommend this to an intermediate artist. Not for beginners!!!

I like this book I followed the instructions of how to Chinese brush painting and I didn't do to bad for my first time painting like this. Good instructions to follow. I know I will be ordering more from them. Thank you!

I bought this book for my brother. He absolutely loves it. He's not much of an artist but he does know quality and he does appreciate art. This present earned me a lot of browny points. I might just have to buy my own copy unless I can convince him my need is greater than his. This is one book that people will not like loaning out. If you do buy one as a present, don't look at it. Better still buy two, one for yourself. Problem solved.

This is a lovely book. As a beginner in this art field I found the instructions and beautiful paintings a great incentive. I only wish the book had had more pages. I recommend this book as I have found it invaluable..

Good for teaching how to draw and paint in the Japanese style

Really great book with loads of ideas and advice for the amateur newbie to Chinese painting. The only thing I didn't realise was that the book itself is HUGE. It's roughly slightly larger than A4 which makes it a little cumberesome but I must admit that it makes up for it by definitely improving the visuality of the images.

Book is bigger than i expected, thin, but big width and length. Good step by step guide, looking forward to learning and practicing painting.
