KOH-I-Noor Opaque Watercolor Paint Wheel, 24 Colors, 1 Each (FA171506.BC)

Exactly what I needed to travel and have lots of watercolor in a compact case. This is a very saturated color from this brand and it usually has a long case in cardboard. This is durable, stacked and has a lid that doubles as a tray. Great for travel. I kept the plastic packaging to use as a water dipping container. We will use a cup if indoors.

I "paint" for play; using adult colorbooks that accept watercolors or just playing around on a pad of paper. I am a colorist rather than an artist so I can not give a real artist's evaluation. As many reviewers have stated these remind me of eyeshadow pallets I used to get when I was younger. They give me the same fun feeling as opening a box of 64 Crayola crayons. BUT I love them because of the way they paint. I can use more water for a sort of wash look and less for a vivid color. I have been experimenting and this is one of the few watercolors that I can use to actually write my name without it spreading all over the paper. The circles are a little smaller than I anticipated but that is what makes them so great. I can make my own "field box" with these and it's even smaller than the Koi pack. I purchased the Pentel waterbrush with this and it is perfect to pop these into my purse with a small sketch pad. (I can even make my own small sketch pad buy cutting up larger size water color sheets to make a small book.) The "lid" to the container makes a perfect little pallet for me. I can even put the water in the center "well" and then have five small pallets for mixing. With my waterbrush which holds so much water I can squeeze the water into the lid to rinse it easily and wipe it with a paper towel to close up my "little" set of paints. Truthfully, now that I have this, I don't see me using other bigger and more expensive sets even at home. I am still experimenting with blending colors so I will update this review if I have anything to add about that aspect but 24 colors in a compact size and the texture of these paints make it a great buy for $10

I bought several of these for my art classroom. These are affordable paints that are better quality than Crayola watercolor trays or Prang for school use. The kids love using them as well. I use them for grades 3 - 8. I generally let two people share one wheel stack. I let them dry out between uses before I put the lid on. They've lasted several months already and I'm hoping that they will last the whole school year. Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums and I tend to linger on that longer than any other...so we'll see if they last. I'll try to update to let you know if they did indeed last the whole school year. We use them quite heavily. :)

This is a great pack for the price. It's round, the discs all stack and lock into each other, so it's portable and it has all the colors necessary to make all types of watercolors, especially landscapes. The lid can be used as a palette as it has sections and a little bit of water can be added to the circular indention in the center and used to lift off paint. I also have the Koi watercolor set. That one comes with a water holding brush which is nice, but it is a little more expensive. I like the size of the color discs on this one, they're a bit larger than Koi (bigger than a dime, a little smaller than a quarter) so it's easier to lift off color without wetting the color next to it. They also have more space in between so they don't mix into each other as easily. In terms of pigmentation, I think they're just as pigmented as Koi, maybe a little less for some shades. I do miss the purple color in Koi as I often do flowers or put touches of purple in the sky and would like to have one on the palette so I don't have to mix it all the time. The pic is a bit misleading as one of the yellow shades is in the green disc and one in another. The pic uploaded by reviewers is more accurate. For most part the discs are arranged according to color, so most greens in one, blues in another, reds and oranges in one, and the rest in the fourth disc. That helps during painting as it's easier go to one disc for all the green or blue and so forth. So far I like both the Koi and Kohinoor sets for the colors and portability. I find the Koi a bit more portable and like the well designed mixing palette but the circular Kohinoor has some advantages too in how the paints are laid out. If it had the purple, I would have given it a slight edge on the Koi, but right now Koi has the edge for me.

My daughter has a store on Etsy. She paints a lot, and these are her favorites! These are such nice paints! They consolidate into one small cylinder. The colors are deep and easy to use. I have purchased these 3 times and never been disappointed. What a nice product. Also, I'm not getting compensated to say this.

Very good quality

These a really nicely packaged and so pretty. I can't comment on how well they go down on paper because they are a gift for Christmas. I have a budding artist granddaughter and am trying to encourage her to continue in all phases of art. These will go with a set of brushes and a water color art pad. I like that they take up a small amount of space in the storage area as we are rapidly running out of room on her desktop. I'm sure she will like the unique way in which they are presented as well. Something a little different from the ordinary. The price was good I thought....though I am not well versed on what good water colors should cost. I'm still drawing stick figures in my old age.

They are supposed to be opaque but they aren't.
