Solid quick-reference guide for snakes in the US.
I was looking for a book that I could grab at a moment's notice at our family's land as there are quite a few snakes out there, and I wanted to be able to identify venomous versus non-venomous snakes rather quickly. This has a very simple table of contents and large clear pictures that are color (obviously) so you can easily identify snakes with it. I keep it just inside the door so we can make sure we identify snakes as quickly as possible. It has enough info to accurately identify snakes, but not too much that you would get lost if looking for info quickly. Great book.

Not an extensive enough.
It could be more variety of snakes like - rat snake pictures.. but venomous is the important one to avoid. The south has many look alike , so was hoping to see them in detail.

This is a beautifully illustrated book of venomous snakes. I am an enthusiastic reader regarding animals and I really enjoy this well illustrated book of snakes. Such beautiful photography.

Great way to identify the dangerous snakes in your yard
BackgroundI live on 7 + acres with a lot of forest, woods and a pond. I heard about snakes in the area, and I wanted to be well versed with what was a danger and endemic to my region.OrganizationThe book is well organized covering the United States by region. It shows a distribution map of what snakes live in the respective areas.The details of the snakes, their behavior and toxicity/lethality are covered in a straightforward manner. I determined that there are two snakes that I have to look out for. Now, I'm better prepared for not only my backyard but wherever I travel.ConclusionGreat easy reference. Especially, great is that I have the Kindle version that works on a Kindle Fire and Apple iPad.Highly recommend.

A great read and well worth the buy!
Having met the author, Ivan say this book is in depth, easy to understand and very informative. Scott put a lot of effort into this book and desrves more recognition for it.
