Very sturdy and works as advertised
Researched several, and really glad I settled on this brand with 3" dia and exceptional 9" deep/long. North Texas hard-when-dry and sticky-when-wet does require extra effort to insert (twist & turn, step on tube instead of bar when necessary to stomp it), and to clean out sticky black clay (not a fault of the tool that some soils simply have to be scraped off). So ignore those evaluations who want a tool to do all the work in adverse conditions - this is a very sturdy metal tool that will do the job for you.

Great tool, but maybe not great for clay type soil
Great tool. Only problem is that our dirt is like clay so the tube got clogged quite often.

Texas Tough
Just used this tool to plant 50 daffodil bulbs in Texas Blackland Prairie soil. This soil is mostly clay and has destroyed all of my other bulb planters. The soil did stick in the tool as you would expect of a clay soil, but the tool did not bend or break. I sprayed the outside and inside of the tool with water before digging each hole. This spray allowed the tool to slip into the soil easier and made it easier to push the dirt out of the tool. I put all of my weight on the foot pegs when plunging it into the soil and twisting it to the proper depth. No issues with yielding or bending. I highly recommend for planting a large number of bulbs.

but fairly easy to dig overall
Bully indeed! We used this bulb planter to dig out 216 cylindrical holes for our kurapia plugs (a low-water groundcover). Took us less than 5 minutes to dig each hole. To dig in hard clay soil, you must drip water around the cylinder and twist it clockwise & counterclockwise. Sometimes you may need to clip a tree root or two, but fairly easy to dig overall. Just use a broom handle to force the dirt out of the cylinder. Easy-peasy and actually fun, but don't tell your kids that - otherwise you may be complaining that they aren't sharing the toy/tool!

Not worth it
This is not as great as you might think. The dirt gets stuck in the tool. It did not work well for me. I spent more time trying to get the dirt out and ended up using a shovel instead

Heavy duty tool works well.
Heavy duty tool. Won't break easily. Wish it was sharper, but the biased point is long and digs well. If your soil is good dirt (not clayish like mine) this tool will perform great. Clay tends to become packed and difficult to get out. Wish there was some way to open the digger to remove the clay.

Nice size.
Planted 30 bulbs. If there are roots, small ones, it works well but you do need to get down an dig out, cut small roots, etc.I haven't tried it on other soil types, yet. Happy with it.

I hope it stands up to planting and not breaking ...
I hope it stands up to planting and not breaking at the handle tube junction. just several spot welds. Enough metal to reweld with a brace added I hope. Will see how it holds up. I have hundreds of bulbs to plant. .The tube is longer than yard butler tools at the 7 inch high planting depth. I need to plant gladiolas 8 inch deep will see how it goes. Will probably dig a 3-inch trench and use to for last 6-7 inches Not sure how the dirt will cling to it.
