Hi, this stereo cannot be powered via batteries at all. Sorry. Mains power is always required for playing the stereo.

Hi, any double AA batteries are fine for the memory retention - rechargeable or not. Batteries will not power the stereo, only ensure that it keeps saved radio stations and clock / alarm setting sin case mains power is removed.
