Q: Does it work well with a dewalt router?

Of course. As long as your router can hold dovetail bit, and most of them can.

Q: which kind of router do I need? thanks!

I found out the hard way that you need a router with half inch collet and one that has or will take a baseplate that can accommodate the guide bushing(s). I couldn't find anything that would work with a 1/4 inch collet nor any bits that would work. I bought a Portor Cable that has worked out well. BTW it's not an out of the box instant usage. The setup is a bit complicated and be prepared for a learning curve (practice) you will need to go through if you have never used one. It's still worth it you have the time.

10 inches is about the limit of the jig
